Scoliosis back brace

Does anyone here have a young child with scoliosis that wears a back brace?

I've recently been told that my 5yo (nearly 6) DD is going to need to wear one 23 hours a day in order to try and stop her scoliosis from getting worse as she grows. I'm so upset for her and my head has been spinning ever since being told, trying to imagine how a young, active child is going to cope with such a significant life change. She already has a bowel condition and that isn't easy. I keep bursting into tears about it all.

I don't know anyone going through the same thing. I've never met a child in a back brace before, so I have no-one to talk to about it.

Hi OP - my DD has scoliosis and had spinal fusion surgery to correct it aged 17. She was never braced since she was diagnosed too late for it to be beneficial so unfortunately I can’t help with that aspect of things. What I do know however is that groups on Facebook like ‘parents of scoliosis children UK’ and ‘Scoliosis UK’ were absolutely invaluable for advice and support throughout our journey, I’d definitely recommend joining as they hold a wealth of information from like minded parents. There’s also the Scoliosis Support & Research charity - it may be worth contacting them as they hold local support groups and meet ups for the kids

Thank you so much, I've joined the Facebook groups and I'll look up the charity today! Still trying to process it but I also want to stay positive for her sake.
