Any rash experts on here?

Good Morning,

This is a last resort for me, posting photos of my baby’s neck on a public forum, but I really am at my wits end!

My almost 5mo has this persistent rash under her neck for over a month now. I have taken her to the Doctors several times and have received conflicting advice from multiple GPs.

I have tried several emollients and other moisturisers but they all seem to make it worse. I have been hesitant to use any steroid cream, for obvious reasons, but for the last 5 days we have used Timodine…to no avail. The pics are from this morning.

Does anybody have any ideas please?

Many thanks!

It looks like a dribble rash to me, try a barrier cream, one suitable for near the face.

If that doesn't help and it is still getting worse then consider it might be fungal (yeast thrives in warm, damp places like neck folds) and ask to try an anti-fungal cream from the GP.

SpecduckularlyQuackers · 09/05/2025 09:19

If it is dribble rash, I found lansinoh very effective on that for my two.

MrsCbabypls · 09/05/2025 09:51

Thank you both!

@Choconuttolata we’ve tried Timodin this week for suspected fungal infection but there has been zero improvement. We’ve also tried bepanthen - but not any other barrier creams.I’m really at a loss!

@SpecduckularlyQuackers is this their nipple cream? Or do they have other creams? I can’t seem to find it online anywhere.

thanks again!

Yeah, the nipple cream, it's soothing, safe and makes a great barrier.

Choconuttolata · 09/05/2025 14:50

Also maybe a moisturiser/emollient with oat under the barrier to help reduce inflammation. Like Aveeno or similar, I think they do a nappy cream.

I knew someone from NZ who liked Kawa Kawa balm too for eczema and rashes but I don't know how easy that is to get and you would have to think about other ingredients in the balm as some natural ingredients can react for some.

My daughter's eczema was reactive with lanolin as a baby so it might be trial and error to find the right thing for your little ones skin.

My Expert Midwife does a cream called dribble defence, but I have never used it so can't tell you if it is any good.

Try Avene Cicalfate, its amazing stuff! And then use a barrier like the lansinoh.

endofthelinefinally · 09/05/2025 15:27

Consider whether your washing powder or fabric softener is being dissolved onto the skin by the dribble. Fabric softener is often the culprit. You might need to avoid fabric softener and do an extra rinse of clothing. Also get a really good barrier cream. Epaderm is the best one I have tried. The tub, not the tube.

Choconuttolata · 09/05/2025 15:43

I hadn't remembered about that @endofthelinefinally it is a really good suggestion. I had to stop using fabric softener when mine were little, we only use certain non bios and sensitive fabric conditioner now they are older.

MrsCbabypls · 09/05/2025 18:41

Thank you all

@endofthelinefinally we actually changed her washing detergent to Ecover (no fabric softener at all) recently (2 weeks ago) because we thought it may be this!

We've used lansinoh this afternoon and the difference is amazing!!! I just never would have thought to use nipple balm. So happy! THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I really thought we had got rid of it for good! We continued to use lansinoh and as you can see from the previous pic, it improved greatly! Fast forward to today and it’s back with a vengeance…in the exact same places, same markings etc. Do we still think dribble rash? Any sort of bib just irritates it way worse.

Any ideas please? Thanks so much! Xx

Oh poor thing, how frustrating. Perhaps not just dribble rash then? My oldest also had eczema as a reaction to certain foods, and it really was trial and error to find a cream that soothed it until we'd worked out and eliminated the food trigger. For us, epaderm was the best for the eczema but I know from talking to others that different people respond to different emollients 😬

UnderTheCover · 12/05/2025 15:03

OP would you consider trying a small amount of hydrocortisone cream? 0.5%? It helped us

Tktibbs · 23/06/2025 00:21

Did you ever find a solution to the rash? I’m in a similar boat, it goes up and down but not really gone completely for the last month! So frustrating 😢

OtterMummy2024 · 23/06/2025 13:57

My LO gets smaller patches of a similar rash, I apply Sudocrem to it. It got much, much better when baby could sit and then stand - their neck creases dry out. Cute dribble bibs help too :)

MrsCbabypls · 23/06/2025 19:25

@Tktibbs well since then my poor baby has been diagnosed with a peanut, egg and cows milk allergy! The consultant thinks it’s eczema. But ultimately the only thing that clears it up (it still comes up every now and then - particularly in the heat and from the car seat straps) is hydrocortisone cream!!

My baby often looked like this. Sometimes it spread over her whole body and needed antibiotics.
Shes 12 now and has multiple allergies and sensitivities. Eczema, allergic asthma
