My little DDs swollen eyelid (do I need to worry)

Can birthmarks turn into something nasty?
DD 5mo was born with stork bites above each of her eyes. One has pretty much gone, the other has doubled in side appearance wise and is now making her eyelid swollen (cannot fully close eye when asleep).
Pics attached.
Mumsnet and Reddit exhausted- I cannot find anyone asking anything similar.
Finally after 3rd GP Visit they agreed to refer so god knows how long that wait will be, just trying to do a bit of research in the meantime!
Any experiences or advice welcomed!

Those zoomed in pics don’t really do it justice- this maybe better

the other picture zoomed out as there is now much context if you can’t see both eyes!

This could be a haemangioma - a type of birthmark that grows rapidly in the early months of life and then usually gradually fades away in a few years.

My granddaughter (nearly 2 years old) has one under her eyelid. She is being seen by an opthalmologist (after being referred by her GP). For a while she was on medication to help shrink it but that has been stopped now. It is definitely smaller and a lot less noticeable than it was when she was 4 or 5 months old and her parents have been told it will probably disappear completely by the time she is 5 or 6.

I have no medical qualifications though and you should definitely get it checked out. They are normally harmless (if a bit unsightly) but obviously may cause problems if they are in sensitive places like the eyes.

Best wishes.

I have zero medical knowledge, but my daughter had one pink stork mark on her eye as a newborn and it did get very red and a bit swollen when she was a little older… it looked very similar. I didn’t worry too much - I think I checked with the GP once and they weren’t too fussed? And it’s gone entirely now! She’s 1. I can’t remember when it went… it definitely wasn’t there when she was 9 months as we had a Christmas photo shoot.

To add, I think the point at which I took her to the GP about it was because it was swollen enough she couldn’t close it properly, as you say. That didn’t last long though. It got better and worse sometimes, like it flared up. Really not for long in the grand scheme of things though.
