MIL kissed my baby with day 5 cold sore

My baby is 11 months, I know they say it isn’t as important as under 6 months but I’m really worried.
I did warn her about the severity however she forgot and kissed her on the face, she’s at day 5 of it actually appearing and there is a slight scab over it. I’ve never had one and neither has my partner so I’m frightened now she might get it or even result in something bad😔 has anyone had experience with older baby?

Who the fuck forgets they have a massive, infectious sore on their face?

I’d keep a close eye on this person.

Same situation, 18month old, DC developed a cold sore.

Thankfully it was extremely mild for a primary outbreak, one recurrence since (it’s been several months). All ok really, though I am still annoyed as it was totally preventable.

I’m so sorry to hear that! Hoping that because it’s been a good few days she won’t get it :(

I hate people kissing my DD. My mum does it a lot and always puts dds hands in her mouth, I’ve started kicking off. I’m sick of being polite. I caught her trying to feed chocolate to her too a couple of weeks ago and dd is only one. I’ve told her if she ever ever does that again she won’t see dd again. She’s never seen anger like that come out of me

Lilmizmiz · 06/05/2025 13:34

Update: she was ill for 4 days with low grade temp & irritation, also sore throat and mild rash.. we thought it was just a cold but today a sore came up on the side of her mouth. I’m absolutely livid

Wow.
And that was entirely preventable.
I'm not surprised you're angry.

pikkumyy77 · 06/05/2025 13:37

I am so, so, sorry.

Dogpawsandcatwhiskers · 06/05/2025 13:38

Your DH needs to speak to her. I'd be bloody livid!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 06/05/2025 13:39

Your poor dd, @Lilmizmiz! If I were in your shoes, I don't think I could stop myself from ripping MIL apart for this. At the very least, I'd be telling her it would be a cold day in Hell before she comes within touching distance of her granddaughter.

I am a grandmother myself, and I cannot imagine being so careless with the well being of my grandchildren.

ThejoyofNC · 06/05/2025 13:43

Honestly I can't explain to you the way I would explode over this, I'd probably have to be arrested. I wouldn't ever let her near my child again. I'm so sorry OP.

Ethelflaedofmercia · 08/05/2025 15:40

I’m not normally one to slate MILs but she would not be getting anywhere near my baby ever again.

Mistake or not, she has put her grandchild at risk. What an absolute menace of a woman.

Jujujudo · 08/05/2025 15:43

MILs get away with shitty disrespectful behaviour because their sons permit it. You and the child are his family now and he needs to place the boundaries. I’d be livid in your place.
