Biogai Drops and wind/gas

Hi all.

I’m hoping that someone can help and offer reassurance. My LO (baby No 2) will be 8 wo on Saturday, and has had quite a few issues already so far. He was born via c section, and had a number of antibiotics at birth, after a stay in Neonatal. He very quickly became really symptomatic of silent reflux (although I didn’t really know this at the time). After lots of research, and suggestions, we tried multiple different things - cranial osteopathy, probiotics (Udo’s choice), elevating the cot, holding him upright for 30 mins after every feed - which is extremely frequent as he feeds ALL of the time, lots of burping. He’s an EBF baby.

With limited success, and unable to cope with 0 sleep at night any more due to having to constantly hold him upright, we ended up seeking medical intervention, and he got put on omeprazole. It’s been a lifesaver for his reflux and we are not down to 3 wake ups a night, rather than a blur of wake ups and holding/falling asleep unsafely.

However, he ended up being gassy, and a little constipated, so we were recommended to switch probiotics to BioGaia. He’s been on them for 3 days now, and whilst he has been pooing much more, he has suffered with chronic wind - to the point where he is screaming in pain and unable to sleep again when he’s put down.

Has anyone had any experience of this with
these drops? Does it improve after a certain amount of time? I’m a bit apprehensive about just stopping, and constantly changing what we are doing, so wondering if I should perhaps reduce the number of drops? But equally, I don’t want to continue at all if it’s likely to keep making him so unhappy.

Sorry for the long easy, but any advice and similar past experiences would be great!

We used them as my baby was super unsettled. Paedetrician said no harm trying, they in themselves would be harmless and many parents say they help (unlike infacol etc which make reflux worse). It didn't really do anything for us although I kept using them for a few months as I had bought a few and they were so expensive lol.

In the end I figured baby had CMPA so I stopped all dairy and soy and he was a different baby within 1-2 weeks. All reflux, pain, wind, constipation crying, all of it had been due to his CMPA. However CMPA is very rare for EBF babies as so little goes in the breastmilk so I'm not saying this will necessarily help you. Being dairy and soy free is difficult. We confirmed the allergy when we weaned, a tiny amount of yogurt made him extremely sick.
