Terrible pain after rugby

Ruby41 · 20/04/2025 21:06

My daughter played rugby today and yesterday, and has in the last hour or so started to moan about belly pain and pelvic pain. Really weird, she never usually has any problems after back-to-back rugby. I can only think she was tackled and winded hard this afternoon by a player twice her size. Maybe there may be some bruising. I have tried and left a voicemail for the club doc to call us back. My anxiety is higher than usual when she normally takes it all in her stride. She came home from the after-party early and is now curled up on the sofa. She is a pretty fit kid

Take her to A&E tonight!
Why are you waiting for a call back at 9pm on Easter Sunday

LapinR0se · 20/04/2025 21:08

How old is she?

MargaretThursday · 20/04/2025 21:09

It could be unconnected, and be something like appendicitis. She needs to be checked tonight though.

Why haven’t you asked her what happened? Why are you assuming things and calling the club???

YummyBelicious · 20/04/2025 21:09

Rugby mum here - I would prob go a&e too, but wondering if it could be pulled muscles in stomach that are cramping?

Because there is someone always available to speak to within 2 hours of us calling

How old is she? Could it be coincidental and periods? Has she said anything about being tackled?

Muchtoomuchtodo · 20/04/2025 21:12

Her age could be relevant here.

Have you given any painkillers? Does she have a temperature?

I’d be calling 111, or heading straight to A&E if her pain gets any worse

MumChp · 20/04/2025 21:12

Age?
I would try with paracemol and if not enough call 111.

Ruby41 · 20/04/2025 21:13

We are not assuming anything. We were at the game and saw the tackle. The other girl was double the height and weight of our daughter. Doc and Physio saw her on the pitch and came off straight after going down. She seemed okay after the game and when we dropped her off tonight. She is 13

LapinR0se · 20/04/2025 21:14

Has she started her period yet?

WetBandits · 20/04/2025 21:15

Age is quite important here, how old is she?

Could just be pulled muscles, but could also be appendicitis or a burst ovarian cyst/ovarian torsion, especially if she has been tackled. I’d be going to A&E personally, and I don’t exactly say that lightly as a nurse with A&E experience!

X-posted with your update, please take her to A&E.

nahthatsnotforme · 20/04/2025 21:18

Unless it’s something obviously unrelated (like a D&V) I too would get that checked.

GeorgianaM · 20/04/2025 21:20

I'd be worried about a spleen injury.

What is a spleen injury or splenic trauma?
Spleen injuries can occur when your child has an abdominal injury. The spleen is a fist-sized organ located in the upper left side of the abdomen. It filters and removes old blood cells and bacteria from the body and makes red blood cells.
What causes spleen injuries?
The most common cause of spleen injury is blunt trauma to the abdomen. This kind of force can happen in car crashes, bike accidents or sporting injuries.
A penetrating spleen injury is where the spleen is cut or torn. Rib fractures on the left side can also result in spleen injury.

ChompinCrocodiles · 20/04/2025 21:25

Is it possibly unrelated? Is she due on and has she felt similar before? Does she have diarrhoea and therefore more likely a bug?

If not, I'd take her to A&E now. I wouldn't be waiting for a call back from anyone, there's nothing anyone can tell you or rule out without a physical exam. A phone call with the Club Dr or 111 is a total waste of time.

Angrymum22 · 20/04/2025 21:35

As the mother of a 20yr old DS who has played rugby since age 6 I would be straight to A&E. A local player sustained a spleen injury and died as a result. Mainly because it was a bit of a freek accident and it wasn’t thought to be serious. As a result all the local clubs are hyper vigilant.
DS has “glass shoulders “ but refuses to stop playing. He’s had one repaired and was out of the game for 18mnths. He has played a few matches this year but has come off when he’s knocked his shoulder, I think he has now learned that carrying on is not a good idea. Pre surgery he would carry on despite being in pain. But h s now an adult so I don’t have a say anymore.

A few hours in A&E is worth it just for peace of mind.

Weeeeegoagain · 20/04/2025 21:50

A&E to check for internal injury. Better safe than sorry

StripyCarpets · 20/04/2025 21:54

A & E

Thank you all we have just gotten to A&E

Hope she’s ok.

StripyCarpets · 20/04/2025 22:12

Good luck, hope she’s alright. How stressful for you all.

legalseagull · 21/04/2025 17:12

How’s she doing OP?

Ruby41 · 22/04/2025 21:49

So, so sorry for not updating sooner. It had nothing to do with rugby and consisted of appendicitis. They operated Monday morning and she is home slowly recovering x
