We're on day 4 and it's honestly been hell, 4 hours of broken sleep last night I'm hoping for a better night tonight but not holding my breath.
what day is typically the worst?

Days 3-5 were the worst for us. Honestly it was 8yrs ago and I STILL remember the misery. On one of the nights I slept for 50 minutes and then drove to work the next morning, my boss took one look at me and sent me home! Virasoothe and piriton (if over 1yr old) are your friends.

strawberrywishes · 18/04/2025 21:08

@Realisation14It is absolutely miserable isn't it. Typically DH is away with work for the next two weeks so I'm holding the fort, I'm on autopilot at the moment just waiting for it to get better. Then we'll be back at square one with my youngest dc. Hoping to at least have the first one through the worst of it before they get it though!

Oh Christ you're on your own with two of them and one has chicken pox. You have my full sympathy, you must be absolutely done in! How old are they both?

Eachpeachpearprune · 18/04/2025 21:11

Days 4-5 for us. Hopefully you’re nearing the end of the worst bit!

Limeandbasil90 · 18/04/2025 21:13

It’s obviously too late for you OP but to anyone reading this thread - have your child vaccinated! It’s a bit spenny but totally worth it to save your child such distress

Frontroomroomjungle · 18/04/2025 21:13

If day 1 is when you first notice blisters, probably day 3-4 for us.

Eldest DC was back to normal in a week, youngest DC came out in blisters 11 days after eldest first got them so they were at least staggered. Youngest was much worse than oldest. Good luck 😬

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 18/04/2025 21:16

All of them. 7 hideous days. Second round of blisters on day 5. Very little sleep. Weeknight wine. OP you have all my sympathy. Yellow metanium was the ONLY thing that gave relief. I kept a tube just in case child 2 ever gets it, and this may now be the only unopened tube left in existence.

@Limeandbasil90 just got dc2 vaccinated last week. Dose 2 in 4 weeks. £150 worth every penny. Wish I’d known about it before DC1 had it.

strawberrywishes · 18/04/2025 21:57

Thanks everyone for the sympathy, if I'd known there was a vaccine I would have 100% done it it would have been worth every penny!
@Realisation14they are 2 and 5, the 5yo currently has them so just awaiting the 2yo coming down with them.
I have half a tube of metanium so I will try that when she wakes, we've done 3 oat baths today and have poxclin mousse, calpol and piriton but honestly it's barely touching it.

Oh gosh. i really hope it passes for you all soon. I have no advice other than what you have already tried 💐

SummerIce · 18/04/2025 22:02

You can still get your second vaccinated. It should help limit how badly they get it once they’ve been exposed.

strawberrywishes · 18/04/2025 22:14

@SummerIcei had a look as soon as I had discovered this was a thing but there is no availability in my area for the next week from what I can see, by which point will probably be too late for us.

I found it quite easy with my youngest but she had it quite mild. My eldest was smothered, couldn’t put a finger on a bit of him without a spot. Every day was awful and he ended up on antibiotics as they started getting nasty. Oat baths were his only relief.

strawberrywishes · 18/04/2025 22:30

@Trinity69 that's how my 5yo is at the moment, literally covered head to toe it's horrible. Hoping my youngest isn't too badly affected.

Get Rhus Tox it really helps

strawberrywishes · 19/04/2025 13:53

Thanks again for all of your advice, day 5 and we seem to have turned a corner thank goodness!

im glad they're improving. My son still has scars from them. They don't effect his appearance much though. I would keep the skin moisturised, tepid baths, plenty of drinks and a good chicken pox cream recommended by your pharmacy
