Do your children get less ill the older they get?!

Sorry for my miserable first post! I have 3 kids DS1 nearly 6 DD2 4 and DD3 1. Illness seems never ending especially for my son, I get he’s at school but I’m pretty hot on hand washing, uniform off at the door etc. We are currently on holiday and after day 1, DD2 was sick 10 times through the night bless her. We’ve had a sickness bug of sorts every month since feb and I’m finding motherhood really unenjoyable as it feels like you can plan fun things anymore without someone being sick. It doesn’t help that I have sever emetaphobia which I am having therapy for. But I just wanted to know there is light at the end of the tunnel for less illness?
thank you 😊

Yes.

pre school years are worst. They get much less ill in primary and in secondary hardly ever.

DenholmElliot11 · 13/04/2025 13:43

Yes it does get better the older they get.

Those early years are awful i remember them with 3 kids and 2 adults it's almost all year that someone is ill. Made me cry one year. Hang in there!

My children are 6 and 3 and it feels constant and really gets me down. I try so hard to give them a good diet and vitamins etc but we seem to get everything each year!

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 13/04/2025 20:34

Yes, it definitely gets better. Hang on in there Smile

IndieRocknRoll · 13/04/2025 20:35

Yes it gets much better!
they are 11 and 8 now & rarely ill. In fairness they weren’t terrible as toddlers but did have the usual coughs & colds like most kids of that age.

PeppermintPatty10 · 13/04/2025 20:50

I find one child often gets ill much more than the others! One of my DC catches every bug while the other rarely gets a snuffle. Ironically, the frequently ill child was breastfed as a baby/toddler for several years while the other for a few months.

Hang in there, OP - it does get better!

Yes they do get less bugs when older but vomiting every month seems extreme. Is there any chance some of this could be either food poisoning or allergies?

Eddiehollymillie · 14/04/2025 14:15

It’s mad isn’t it, my friends little girl was formula fed and didn’t get a bug until she was 4!

my sons school seems to be ‘well known’ for sick bugs in the area which is awful isn’t it! He had sickness in Feb half term and half his class came down with it or similar and then there was a mass wave again in March when he had the 💩 and a temp from it. I just wish other parents were more considerate when sending kids back (that’s a whole other story though isn’t it 😂)
