To let 13mo old sleep now fever has went down

Hi everyone , my 13mo had a temp tonight of 37.9 then 38.6 now back at 37.1 after some calpol. He drank his 9oz bottle before bed of cows milk so not worried about dehydration. He’s had a cold all week but only got the fever tonight! Hoping it’s him fighting off the last bit. As his temp came down to normal should I be waking him again for calpol or just letting him sleep? FTM here and first time I’ve dealt with fevers. Thanks

You can let him sleep, and just make sure he is not too packed in with blankets and things. He will get really red and hot if he is all wrapped up too much, and then he will wake up again. He should be okay though and he will wake you up if he wants you.

It might be an idea to sleep in the same room tonight just to keep an ear open.

The fact that the temperature comes down below 38 with calpol is really positive. That means it's more likely to be viral than a bacterium. By the time your kid is about four you will start to be really happy to see a fever that comes down with calpol.

You are doing a great job there. Hope you get a good night's sleep.

Thank you so much for your advice and kindness. He is in a long sleeved vest and 2.5 sleeping bag, but his room is sitting at about 17.5 degrees and feels nice and cool as we have a humidifier running to help with his congestion.

Leave him be, just have the calpol and syringe set up in his room (high up) in case it's needed. And water for him.

Only wake them if it's something serious, bacterial or post surgery, where you know the temperature/pain will make them miserable if allowed to build up again.

I agree let him sleep. Temperature may go up again but be ready with calpol when he wakes up

he’s a good enough age not to be overly worried and if he’s had a bottle that’s brilliant.

get some rest yourself.

Thank you all for advice. He seems happy in himself today, but still running warm anywhere between 37.5-38.8, calpol is bringing it down. I think if tomorrow he is still running a temp I’ll take him to GP as that’ll be day 3 and also the viral infection for over a week. Just want to make sure that’s all it is. Will they be annoyed if I take him as his temp isn’t scarily high?

You don’t have to treat a temperature, look at your child and see how he’s behaving. Is he miserable and unsettled then give calpol or nurofen, if not then just let the temperature do its job. It’s there to fight the infection.
