Threadworms!!!

My daughter has caught threadworms!!! I had no idea as there were no symptoms until she had vaginal discharge and then I checked her bottom and saw one wriggling around (yuk!!).

This is the first time I’ve ever dealt with this and my OCD has gone into overdrive drive. I’ve been googling like a lunatic, but this has just made it worse as the information is contradictory from everyone.

Some are saying wipe down every toy they play with (a million and one tiny Barbie pieces at that, god help me!!) others are saying to just wash bedding towels and pants and thorough hand washing/washing the vagina and anus with warm water twice a day.

The pharmacist said I needed to wipe down every toy too, included each uno card and touched last night! I’m losing my absolute mind and it’s times like these I wish she didn’t have so many toys!

We have taken the Ovex yesterday and will take again in 2 weeks, although thinking I will take it sooner, but have seen others take 2 doses a day for 3 days?

She has been sharing my bed too, so I’ve had to strip the bedding daily and also been hoovering the mattress, topper, etc.

Should I be doing more than wiping down each area, washing hands, towels, clothing, pants etc. Also is clothing okay being washed on 40 as any higher and my daughters clothes just shrink (I’m washing towels, bedding and pants on a 60/90 wash)

Sorry if I sound like an absolute mad lady, my ocd goes into overdrive and I end up panicking profusely (I’d be absolutely useless in an apocalypse!)

Been there. Just wash the bedding, clothing and do the ovex. You could go on forever and it’s not necessary.

40 is fine for the clothes

We used to strip beds and wash on hot. Same with flannels and towels. Also trimmed nails and instilled hand washing with nail brush during active infections.

Dd2 used to get them ALL the time. Never anyone else in the household so...

CBA with wiping down every toy and book personally either.

Take ovex, reduce sugar intake as those little visitors love sugary food.
More fibre, drink more so the worms will be passed sooner.

iron everything,, iron mattress too. If you have steam cleaner steam all the toys.
Wash pjs everyday. wash hands often.
And watch for first signs of infestations in your child, as sometimes second dose need to be given earlier than 14days.

In my child first sign was a bit problem with falling asleep, and staying asleep.

Sudocream helps too

My thumb sucking, mud sifting (and eating 😩) soap dodging DD (now 7) has brought threadworms into my home on several occasions! The first time we all got dosed up on OVEX and EVERYTHING got washed. And we dosed up a week later to get the hatched eggs. We didn’t get it - or at least didn’t suffer the symptoms. She’s had it at least twice since and I wasn’t so fastidious those times - only bedsheets and towels were washed but not all the toys and we all still managed to avoid it.
I only ever wash clothes at 40 - bedding and towels were higher during infestation and I certainly didn’t wipe everything down she touched.
She always had a bedtime bath (usual) and wore knickers to bed (unusual for her). I didn’t wipe every surface she touched. I’ve heard placing Vaseline around the genitals to catch the fuckers is a tactic but I never bothered.

It’s so grim OP. I also have OCD so I do understand where you are coming from. The worst parts was when my DD woke up in the night in discomfort ☹️ but thankfully Ovex is fast acting.
How old is your DD?
Good luck with it all xx

Give ovex, wash bedding, towels, nightwear and underwear. Encourage good handwashing. Job done.

I feel you. I only realised DS had them because I caught them. I have OCD around infestations so seeing one wriggle on me almost made me faint.

The first time I did wipe down everything as I wasn't sure how long it had been around. Subsequent times as PPs I've just done the sheets, towels and PJs on the day of taking Ovex then PJs & towels every couple of days while Ovex worked its magic and that's been enough.

I really don't think wiping all toys is necessary. All it did was making me even more paranoid and totally exhausted. I found if I started wiping toys my OCD mind would then think I really needed to wipe every single thing for it to work and it just isn't realistic.

If you think you might get reinfected from eggs in the home, then just add another dose another two weeks after the second one. I tend to do this for peace of mind.

On the plus side, I don't really care about worms anymore now I've been exposed to them. It's exposure therapy I guess!

First give antihistamines to help stop the itching, it's created by the discharge of the worms. Plug the butt with vaseline or sudocrem at night to try Nd dam the fuckers in. You don't want them to get to the vagina.

Pants on at night, wash the bedding, clean the nether regions and fresh pants on a morning. Clean the flannel used.

I wouldn't go crazy on the cleaning, you'll drive yourself demented. Short nails, regular hand washing and a dose after 2 weeks should starve off the fuckers.
