Help! Does this rash look familiar to anyone?

DS (6) has had the cluster on his calf for over a year but it never looked angry. Then it started spreading and that new patch is really bad today.

He says it doesn't itch but i catch him scratching it once in a while. I think he feels it and thinks its a scab then scratches it, which has been spreading it.

Every time I've asked the GP through econsult we've been fobbed off to the pharmacist who said eczema/dry skin and gave us a cream which has definitely made things worse.

Any ideas welcome!

Yes!

Folliculitis!

As you can see by my user name, I was concerned... but it looks a lot like a milder version of the folliculitis DD had on the back of her legs.

If it looks like little skin tags then it could be molluscum contagiosum

Gloschick · 07/04/2025 23:14

Agree, looks like molluscum. DC is the right age for it.

Molluscum.

Anxiousness35 · 08/04/2025 03:34

Thank you! My instinct was molluscum too, especially the way it started on his calf. It was more obviously like skin tags/little blisters then, plus the fact he has had them about a year.

I just started questioning it with the way it has spread and now has large red areas + bleedy spots, but that might just be from him scratching it.

Also not super impressed that the pharmacist couldn't identify it. Applying the cream he gave us definitely made it worse.

Is there anything that can help molloscum?

Time passing 😬
Some children see an improvement after chicken pox or HFM.
You could also try a coat of clear nail varnish but NOT on broken skin .
