6 month old with severe eczema

Hi,

My 6 month old has severe eczema thought to be caused by a cows milk allergy. Whilst his body seems to be improving, I am really struggling to get his face to heal.

He has both cheeks covered in eczema and he gets it to the point where because he rubs it so much he manages to get it raw and weeping. I’ve tried normal mitts, eczema mitts etc and nothing seems to stop the friction. I try my hardest to not let him touch or rub his face but when he’s asleep he manages to rub and brings the skin back to weeping again.

Im at my wits end, he’s seen various GP’s and he’s under a dermatologist they don’t give me any help other than providing him with emolients and hydrocortisone cream. He’s really unsettled because as you can imagine his skin is so sore, what makes it more difficult is he has always rubbed his face to go to sleep etc.

I can’t even cover his face up, I’ve tried bandages etc and he just gets them off. His face is sore and I just can’t get it to heal. Does anyone have any advice?

thank you x

Have you removed soya from his diet as well? Many children who react to cow's milk also react to soya.

He’s on Neocate milk, I’m unsure whether that contains soya I will have a look. Thank you

How about his solids? Are you mak8ng sure those are milk and soya free? Reading EVERY label? It's a pain (I speak from experience!) But you need to check everything.

If you live in a hard water area it might be making it worse. Even changing to sit down showers (instead of a bath) with him might help.

Neocate is dairy and soya free.
Have you explored environmental allergies?
I have friends who's kids eczema is also set off by house dust mite allergies and hayfever with the hayfever they can't sleep on bedding that's been dried outside.

yeah I’m super cautious about anything I give him, he is under a dietician so have been told what not to give him. To also monitor and keep a food diary incase any foods make his eczema worse, I’m just at a loss on how to make it better

Thankyou for the advice, we don’t live in a hard water area however I might try giving him a shower

We do have two dogs which are short haired and get bathed and groomed regularly. I also make sure to keep ontop of the house in terms of dusting etc, always wash all his bedding regularly. It’s so difficult trying to figure out what could be making his eczema worse
