as it says, she’s got chicken pox at the moment but some REALLY bad spots down below. i know they need to air out really but if she’s got a nappy off she itches it like mad. is there anything in particular i can put on down there that won’t irritate her or cause them to get worse? poor babe looks so so sore bless her 😭

don’t really want to take her out anywhere unnecessarily so i thought no better place to come than here as i get some great advice!

i have calamine cream and some aveeno oat bath sachets but thats all i have at the moment. also ive got piriton!

just didnt know if there was anything specific i could use to relieve some of the soreness?

shes 14 months old

I would let her keep her nappy off as much as possible and put towels down.

JoyeuxNarwhal · 04/04/2025 19:29

Bicarb of soda in a coolish bath. Don't have it too deep, just let her sit and play and splash about.
Make sure her fingernails are short, maybe some cotton mittens if she'll keep them on to stop her scratching (I actually put socks over ds's hands/arms when he had it but he was a bit younger.

Wobblemonster · 04/04/2025 19:32

PoxClin worked better than calamine when my children had it.

WeNeverGoOutOfStyle · 04/04/2025 19:34

Lady area 😂

dylexicdementor11 · 04/04/2025 19:41

Poxclin is wonderful, I hope it helps. A pharmacist would be able to offer advice but it would be helpful if you used the proper names for your child’s genitalia. This would help a pharmacist give you the correct advice.

HallidayJones6779 · 04/04/2025 19:43

Eurax cream is so much better than calamine. We had chicken pox in the house last month and calamine didn't seem to help after the first ten mins. Eurax relief lasted a lot longer

Sudocrem

OneWaryCat · 04/04/2025 19:49

It's called a 'vulva' and there's nothing to be ashamed about using the correct terminology. Hope your daughter feels better.

IntheSpaghetti · 04/04/2025 19:53

Babys lady area is hilarious 😂😂

stargirl1701 · 04/04/2025 19:55

Vulva, OP. Teach it to her from today.

BumbleBeegu · 04/04/2025 20:00

You are allowed to say vulva OP. It’s not a banned word.

StevesSleeve · 04/04/2025 20:25

I’d just keep the nappy off and deal with the consequences.

Same as if it was a baby’s gentleman area.

Cactiiii · 04/04/2025 20:26

Surely every area on a female is a ‘lady area’. 😂

diggermama · 04/04/2025 20:35

Head and Shoulders original shampoo used as bubble bath. Much better than calamine lotion

DonningMyHardHat · 05/04/2025 07:31

Have you got any small cotton knickers or loose shorts? You could pop those on her to stop her scratching but still let it the area breathe without a nappy. (Obviously with the understanding they’re bound to get weed in!)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/04/2025 09:06

How old is she @Freddie15VES ? do sympathise. My DD was 8 months old when she had Chickrn Pox and she was covered! The doors are still the same size on a tiny body and they just all joined up into a big crusty scab!

As other have said Poxclin and oat baths help. Poxclin is wonderful, as it is a mousse, so you can dab it on her without actually having to touch her sore skin. Make the most of the warm weather this week and have her as unclothed as possible, and put socks on her hands to stop her scratching.

Good luck.

You do know not to give her ibruprofen/neurofen don't you?

Freddie15VES · 05/04/2025 09:14

god sorry - okay she’s got chicken pox on her anus, vagina, vulva, labia, rectum, etc etc

shes 14 months old, doubt she gives a 💩 what i call it at this moment but dont worry, my son knows his penis is a penis.

thanks to all the helpful comments, @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads she’s so so sore with it! i didn’t even think the spots would be the same size stupidly, no wonder they look so brutal on her! i’m going to try and get some mousse today after a really tough night. she’s got them all inside her mouth too (not sure if there’s a better terminology for mouth sorry) the mousse sounds like a good shout cos the blisters are so big i feel awful rubbing my hand over them 😩

and yes @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads no ibuprofen! luckily caught my mum about to give my son nurofen the other week when he had it and i shouted NOOOOOO! think she nearly fell over i rushed over to her that quickly 😂

Poor little thing, my DS1 had his spots in the nappy area too, I can empathise OP, hope little one is better soon.

Overtheatlantic · 05/04/2025 09:22

I’m so sorry for your little girl. It sounds like you’re doing a great job though. 💐🍷

Cantbelievethisishappeniny · 05/04/2025 09:32

god sorry - okay she’s got chicken pox on her anus, vagina, vulva, labia, rectum, etc etc

Her vagina and rectum are internal so not sure how you’d know she’s got pox there

(End of pedantry Wink)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 05/04/2025 15:20

Look. @Freddie15VES has come to ask advice on helping her baby with a nasty dose of chicken pox. Any one with an ounce of emotional intelligence could surmise that she's not having a great week.

Give her a break on the language she has chosen to use. There's a time and a place for pedantry and showing off how clever you are. This thread is not one of those times or places. Her concerns were quite clear. What on earth do you get from kicking someone when they're down?
