Dd(9) has this on her big toe. It's started a month or so ago as an itchy spot. I took her to the pharmacist and they said to put anti fungal cream on it. We did and it didn't get better. If anything it got worse. The area got bigger and went purple. Then it went down. This is it last night. Just not sure what it could be. Waiting on call back from Dr. Any thoughts?

Is it hot to touch? Still itchy? Painful to walk on or bend the joint?

There's a particular type of eczema that you get on the fingers and toes that can look that. Really uncomfortable and itchy. GP will prescribe some cream to use for a week or two and see if it improves - it should do pretty quickly from experience but can suddenly come back.

It's itchy when it flares up like this. I don't think it's particularly painful. She doesn't get any itchy spots anywhere else and has never had anything like this

Does it get tiny, blisters on it? I think the other poster is referring to pompholyx eczema.

Its sometimes on the sides of fingers and toes. Google will show worse case pics, but I used to get it mildly and maybe once a year. Mine would have tiny, blister which were very itchy. The skin would come off leaving a wet, painful area. It would eventually heal- but the healed skin was always a bit different to the surrounding skin for a while.

I've neve seen it over a joint like you DD's toe though. I was wondering about septic arthritis, hence wondered if it was hot to touch?

I can't edit my last post, but seems odd that the toe keeps flaring up and down, therefore less likely to be septic arthritis. hmm, I'm having a think.

Thank you. I know what you mean about the tiny blisters. I get them on the palms of my hands every now and then. No blisters on this though.
