hi everyone …..
before I start this I want to say I do have health anxiety …..
over the last 2.5 weeks my 5 year old keeps saying ‘ I’m going to be sick ‘ , mainly at night , however has done it through the day occasionally… he is never actually sick .
I just can’t shake off that something isn’t right - he had a 2 week phase of the same thing in December also . He doesn’t appear to be unwell, no fevers , he’s eating ok ect but I feel so worried and can’t shake off it’s something sinister and I should take this as a red flag. I took him to the gp about it but they weren’t concerned …. The appointment didn’t reassure me whatsoever x

Literally nothing you have said would make you think that it could be cancer

Jumping to thinking it could be cancer is a big reach. Are you getting support for your health anxiety?

Soontobe60 · 01/04/2025 21:11

Could your DS have latched on to your health anxiety? At 5 years old, most kids are not fully cognisant as to what is ‘different’ in their bodies. They might say ‘my tummy hurts’, but as your GP has ruled illness out, then he’s fine.

sounds like he could be heading for emetophobia, is he picking up on your health anxiety?

Mpark · 01/04/2025 21:15

I always hide my anxieties away from my child , so I don’t think he has twigged on 🤷🏻‍♀️ his dad is insistent there’s nothing wrong with him and he’s pulling a fast one x

I agree. So many things could cause this - food intolerances for instance. My DD 4 will sometimes say things like that if she overhears someone else say they’re sick.

Please get support for your health anxiety, it can have severe consequences.

So many reasons for a child repeatedly saying this. It gets them some attention, they have an allergy, constipation, rumbling appendix, some sort of vertigo maybe post viral...or other balance issue.

It could be reflux, he could be feeling the acid rising in his throat.
