12 year old with brain fog?

my DS told me on Wednesday night that his head felt funny. He is struggling to describe it but says it’s like his thoughts are coming really slowly and it feels “off” over most of his head and neck- not painful like a headache.
I’ve spoken to the GP who says she’s not concerned as he’s not showing neurological red flags and to keep an eye on it.
He’s had an eye test today- all fine. This feeling is still there today.
From my highly anxious googling, it sounds like brain fog but has anyone’s child experienced this?
I have terrible health anxiety and of course I’m worrying myself sick about brain tumours.

Did the GP not suggest bloods?

Low vitamin D
low iron
low b12
thyroid issues

all can cause those sort of feelings, all easily treated. Maybe see how DS is over the next week or two and go back to the GP if it doesn’t resolve.

Thanks so much for your reply!
He had some bloods done in November and they were fine except a vitamin d insufficiency which he takes 1000ug daily for.
Maybe that’s why she didn’t request more?

If you are worried about brain tumours specifically, this website is good on the red flags (and I think should be reassuring to you here)

It is a non-specific symptom, could simply be a virus he is getting over. Hasn't been going on that long yet. I would see how things go and particularly is it causing problems with schoolwork or not?

Thank you so much! He doesn’t seem unwell at all and you wouldn’t notice anything if he hadn’t mentioned it.

Has he had a virus recently? Long covid can cause brain fog and mecfs. But think you'd notice other symptoms before brain fog.

He hasn’t but his dad has been unwell this week with flu like symptoms so it’s possible he could be carrying some of that, although he seems fine in himself
