Hi I was wondering if anyone could help me. Does a prolonged fever with runny nose and cough lean away from kawasaki disease? We don't see a rash. There's red eyes with what seems like a little discharge but nothing else jumps out. Just lethargic from the fever (38.6 average). Maybe dry lips but nothing else really seems off except the fever itself and the cough/runny nose. He used to always get a fever for up to 48 hours with any mild illness so we thought maybe it's just a nastier virus. Husband has symptoms so something infectious is happening but some sources say that kawasaki is associated with infections so I'm confused.
it seems like covid if I'm honest but our son has had that without getting this sick. Does anyone have experience with kids getting extended fevers with covid?
Thank you! x

For a diagnosis of Kawasaki there needs to be an episode of prolonged fever (5 days or more) with at least some of the specific criteria. There are many other reasons to have feverish illnesses longer than expected, including bacterial infections, having more than one virus in a row, or just one unusually long one (seems to have happened quite a bit this winter). GPs will often refer in to paediatrics if they are worried - what does yours say?
