Baby fussy feeding at 6 weeks

Hi, my baby is 6 weeks tomorrow. I am breastfeeding. Up till now baby has fed very well (minus some latching issues early on).

However; the past couple of days is a whole different story. She has been fussy whilst feeding, taking herself off the boob, really pulling at the nipple, crying mid feed, bobbing etc. if I take her off or if she decides to stop she then becomes upset about this and wants to go back on the boob. But, when she does the process repeats with her becoming fussy again! This does not happen at every feed, but it is something new, that I haven’t had a problem with at all before. Is this normal? I was worried if baby was not getting enough milk, as they seem frustrated too.

She has suffered with wind, but this seems to be improving. Previously she would cry / wake herself up and grunt / go red in the face. Now, she still goes red and grunts, but does not get upset about it.

She has had a cold too.

We’ve had mucus in her poo on a couple of occasions, doctor said this can be normal but to keep an eye.

Do you think this is growth related, or are these signs of an intolerance?

It could be a bit of reflux. The mucus in poo can be common when they have a cold. Colds can also trigger a bit of reflux.

My daughter had feeding issues as you described. It started once a night at 1 week but by about 6 weeks we were getting it more frequently and by about 10-12 weeks it was every feed and she didn't feed for more than a few seconds at a time. She fed better when lying down as she seemed calmer.
Given the cold I'd probably wait to see if it resolves when the cold gets better. If it continues afterwards it might worth speaking to your HV or gp about silent reflux and potentially cmpa. My daughter had both and reflux and mucus whilst can be normal can also be due to cows milk protein allergy.

Babies have a growth spurt at six weeks. I think the constant latching and unlatching builds supply. Get the next size up of clothes ready...
