5YR old cavities - filling or tempory filling ?

hi all,

so we took our 5yr to the dentist for the first time and they did an xray and said he had 3 cavities, the dentist did 3 temporary fillings as it was his first time, when i asked if these were enough she said its better to have proper fillings, so i took him the following week to have one, and now i need to do the other 2, hes worried this time (i hate the dentist so i get him) and i dont want to put him under any worry or stress for nothing, on the last visit she said the temporary fillings could last until the teeth fall out (then he gets his adult teeth) so I'm not sure what to do !

Any dentists or anyone been in any similar situation ?

Also we do brush teeth morning and night but i was using fluoride free toothpaste for 5 years now i have switched to fluoride.

Why is everyone using fluoride free toothpaste? I thought fluoride was added to toothpaste to strengthen teeth and prevent cavities, so why would you go out of your way to jeopardise your children’s oral health?

I also think it's crazy not to use fluoride toothpaste. We are told to use it from first teeth and to use at least 1000ppm from then. I'm in Scotland and they have the Childsmile campaign to improve oral health as its been very poor here historically.

Because the tin foil hat brigade will tell you it’s a neurotoxin
usually along with the NHS are trying to kill us all and children don’t need vaccines

Sometimes it's not just diet and hygiene, it's genetics too.
I am 61 and never had a filling, I also have a very sweet tooth.
I have bridges as some of my adult teeth never appeared.
My 2 sons in their 30s have never had Fillings either.
Please don't beat yourself up about it, just maybe cut down on the smoothies.

I too am shocked at the use of flouride free toothpaste.

Cow's milk is also a much better choice for your teeth and bones, I despair of the future consequences of the switch away from it. So many of today's middle aged women will likely develop osteoporosis as a result of the reduction in dairy milk intake.

If im honest i hadn't a clue people take their kids so young, i know its shocking of me, but now i know and both him and little sissy will be having 6 monthly check ups !

Check out the NHS website for nutrition and healthcare advice.

I just wanted to update that the dentist explained to me that NO we should not settle for temporary fillings as the decay could get worse and the child could end up needing a pulpotomy which is like a root canal or the tooth taken out so anyone thinking the temporary filling is ok for kids it’s not worth the risk 😊
