14 year old daughter severe pains in stomach

My daughter has been complaining of pains in her stomach for months. She said it feels heavy, like knots and the flare up of whatever it is last night she said it felt like someone pushing on her stomach, she was shivering but sweating. Doesn’t have diahorrea with it. But she has been losing black discharge/fluid, it was so bad a few weeks ago she when from the bathroom to her room and a clot was on the floor. One side of her groin was swollen so the nurse sent her for an ultrasound which is this coming Sunday. Doctor has prescribed abx this time incase a uti. But I’m so so worried and not able to see a doctor just a nurse. Her bloods came back normal they said.

when I’ve googled it’s coming up cysts or endometriosis but she’s 14 so don’t know if endo starts so young? It also comes up cancer but I really don’t want to think about that. She’s not losing weight, still eating although always been a poor eater.

has a ton had anything similar and what it was?

I can't offer any advice but just want to let you know that I'm thinking of you and your poor daughter.
My sister has endo and this does sound like some of her symptoms and she has always suffered with her periods right from the start.
She used to/still gets clots, extreme bleeding, agonising pain that actually goes beyond her stomach and she gets the shivers and feels feverish. She also has a very irregular cycle.
Fingers crossed that you get answers and your daughter gets the treatment she needs x

Thank you, I’ve heard the horror stories about endo and I’m really hoping it’s not that. The other thing it could possible be is Adenomyosis. Hopefully at the scan they can give me an idea of what’s going on.

Appendicitis?

HomeBodyClub · 21/03/2025 17:49

I’m sorry to ask but is she losing discharge from her front or back passage? It’s not quite clear if it’s stomach problems or gynea related.

Appendicitis?

I’ve thought this as well. But it’s been on/off for last couple of months. And then it goes as quick as it comes. But the discharge is weekly now.

Sorry for not being clear it’s front passage. So I think it’s something gynae just not sure what at such a young age.

Presuming she's started her periods, does she use tampons? Any chance she's forgotten to take one out at the end of her period?

No she doesn’t use tampons.

She had the scan today and turns out it’s rumbling appendicitis. She is being referred to the surgeons just need to wait for an appointment and if it comes back or the pain gets worse we can go to a&e. They also said she is showing polycystic ovaries but it can be normal at hwr age because of hormones and if she still has period problems when she’s 16-18 they can scan again.

Hmm appendicitis does not cause vaginal blood clots. I’d be asking for a gynae referral.

MassiveOvaryaction · 23/03/2025 19:00

Poor kid. Hope she gets a date soon.
Agree with @36and3 re gynae referral because clots/discharge need investigation.

notanormalday · 23/03/2025 22:02

I will be asking for further investigation just want to get this out the way first and then take it from there afterwards.

Chronic appendicitis (what used to be called a grumbling appendix) is actually very very rare. Many doctors don’t even believe it exists. Research argues over it.

One thing is definite though - it doesn’t cause vaginal blood clots. Push for a vaginal ultrasound.

That’s exactly what she called it chronic appendicitis. I’m terrified and treating her like a China doll at the moment. Any little movement and I think she’s got pains. She’s going to be sick of me.

I’d be wanting a second opinion on that. Chronic appendicitis can’t be diagnosed based on one witnessed episode. And if she has appendicitis right now it’s a medical emergency. None of this makes sense.

Apparently rumbling chronic rumbling appendicitis is uncommon. It was inflamed on the scan but her body is fighting the infection so not acute appendicitis right now. So she’s been referred to the surgeons. At the moment the pain has settled.

I have Adenomoysis - if it is that, then it can often be controlled by Desogestrel - I had flooding, pain and life-threatening anaemia repeatedly until they discovered it on a scan and my GP put me on Desogestrel and it's really changed my life for the better.

If they don't mention it on the follow-up appointment, make sure you ask - I'd had many scans where it had been spotted but overlooked, until I had a really good sonographer who actually diagnosed it.

Sending hugs

EDIT - Just seen your updated posts - I really hope she feels better soon - it must be so worrying for her and you

Thank you I’m worried sick but we’re on the right track and the doctor has sent a text this morning to bring her in this afternoon.

It’s scary when they miss things on scans. The consultant yesterday did mention about that pill your on but hesitant to start her on pills so young. But don’t want her to have a miserable life every month on her periods. You just never know if you’re doing the right thing when it come to your kids.

I hope that this afternoon clears some worries away and answers some questions.

With regards to Desogestrel, I totally understand your concerns and I think I'd be the same as you if this was happening to my own daughter.
I have found that the Desogestrel stopped my extreme bleeding very quickly and it's also helped with the pain - I do occasionally get a light period where I will have cramps a few days before hand, but nothing like the pains I used to get.

You're being an amazing mum to her - listening to her, helping her and caring about her - I never got that from my mum and had to deal with it all on my own.

Best of luck this afternoon x
