Hi, I have a 2.5 year old boy and he’s had quite a significant delay in a few areas of his development for a while now. His understanding isn’t great, and he probably can say about 20 words when prompted or he copies you but cannot answer any simple questions or respond verbally. He’s about 6 months behind his actual age
anyway, he had blood tests done a while ago and his iron levels were low but the full blood count got clotted so we didn’t get that result back, so have no idea if he’s anemic or not, he was on iron meds for 3 months and we are coming to the end of it now. He is so different when he is off this medicine as compared to when he’s taking it, he’s happier, more energy more into playing and trying with his speech he’s just happy to be around, but without it he’s awful he just cries over every little thing and is so miserable. So I definitely know that he needs it, we are getting his levels checked again now next week and hopefully get that full blood count to see if he has anemia

so my question is did any of your little ones turn out to be anemic and can it slow their development down and give them delays if they are? Could this be the reason he’s so behind for his age, if he’s been anemic this whole time?

any advice or real life stories you guys have experienced with this or something similar would be great to hear, thanks for reading x

My grandchild was diagnosed anaemic aged 4 and also coeliac. Grandchild didn’t speak fluently until about 3,5 years old. Grandchild was very lethargic, anxious etc in comparison with her nursery cohorts. So much better now aged 5 .
