ASD report

Our son is going for an ASD assessment. He is only 5 years old, His teacher has filled out her part of the report which we are happy enough with, although there are some behaviours she has marked as ‘never observed’ and these are things we have frequently observed at home. He’s only been in school since September and I understand the teacher is teaching a lot of other children and may not observe things we do.

but we are worried if this will significantly affect the outcome of the assessment? Has anyone ever experienced this?

things she did note was, poor eye contact, unusual voice, struggles to make needs known to adults and peers, needs excessive reassurance when changes to routine. Things like that.

but things she didn’t notice where some sensory things, although he is frequently sent home and we were made aware by the teacher that our child go so upset by the noise of another child that he vomited.

our child has sensory issues, he doesn’t like labels on his clothing, won’t wear certain items of clothing. Won’t eat certain foods, struggles with noise although she did note that he has to be moved away from noisy children.

will the teacher report massive affect this?

Children can mask at school and not at home as more relaxed at home. So I don't think it will go against, my daughter was diagnosed at 2 but very obvious and my 6 year old is waiting for an assessment but in mainstream and thinks she definitely masks at school! Good luck with it

In my area, parents views are part of the assessment process. Hopefully you will have the chance to share your observations and concerns.

@Flamingoknees yes we have a questionnaire to fill out, but I was afraid they may dismiss what we say and may tend to go toward what the teacher says although she has said a lot of what we have said to but missed a couple of things, or has just stated that she personally has observed it. Although that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

@chicken2015 awww bless her, do you have a date for your 6 year old? Our son is in a mainstream school but we feel it is very overwhelming for him at times. He vomits a lot due to distress caused by noise and commotion
