Toddler always ill

Just wanted to check to see if this is expected from toddlers that go to nursery. My 2.5 year old is always sick! It's that frequent that I don't even know if it's the same cold or a new one.
Usually I would keep him off nursery when he gets a cold but it's becoming far too frequent now that nursery has become very inconsistent with the days he attends as he is always having time off.

I just wanted to see from other mum if they have the same issue, is this to be expected and do you just send them in with a cold or always keep them off? I feel a bit stuck on what to do. He is due in today, woke up at 5am with a cough and has a runny nose, what is the right thing to do here?!

As long as he is fine in himself and doesn’t have a fever sending him to nursery.

Yup, same with DD who is 18months & started nursery in the autumn. Up until Christmas was the worst, several calls to collect her as she had a temp/wasn't herself etc. Still back to back colds/coughs after Christmas although she's not been as poorly with them. Our nursery's policy, which I agree with, is as long as they're well in themselves & not got a temp, they'll take them. I know some people would say keep them off so they don't share it but by the time they're symptomatic that ship has likely already sailed anyway.

@Tooearlytothink thank you for this. Just seems a never ending cycle doesn't it! I have a baby on the way as well and I'm absolutely dreading it!
I was keeping him away from nursery with just a cold even though he was absolutely fine while other parents were sending their kids in still sick so was sort of pointless keeping him home anyway. Just wanted to make sure sending him in still wasn't a bad thing to do.

My 20 month old is the same. If she doesn’t have a temperature I send her in. Mine is prone to brochiolitis so has a constant wheeze too. On the bright side my now three year old was never like this with illnesses she has always thought them off quickly, I hope your new baby will be the same.
