Child Hip Dysplasia 😭

Hey,
My daughter (2y11m) has her hip check up tomorrow and I feel sick about it
She was born with hip dysplasia and was declared hip healthy after 11 weeks wear of the pavlik harness. However every subsequent scan/xray they have stated that her hips are still a bit shallow. They have mentioned surgery at the last appt (9 months ago) but did say that it had progressed slightly but not enough hence waiting another 9 months.
By looking at her you'd never know, she runs, jumps and plays like a typical child.

Does anyone have experience with hips being "fixed" with the pavlik harness but then requiring surgery at a later date?

I'm hoping for the best, preparing for the worst 😪

I can’t help you with the surgery but my dd wasn’t fully signed off until she was 7, so sometimes it can take a long time. Hoping she’s progressed enough at the next check but if not, just keep telling yourself that it’s better it’s sorted now than later xxx

Nc for this as its very outing.

On my DMs side of the family every single child has had congenital hip dysplasia problems.
My DM and all 7 of her siblings had to wear calipers for various lengths of time , the youngest of the family is now in his mid 70s so this was all a long while ago. All of them went on to have one or both hips replaced by there late 40s to mid 60s.
This has passed on to all but a very few of my cousins 2nd and 3rd cousins, youngest of whom is about 7yrs old now .

As time has progressed so has medical advances and tho there is a good chance I will need mine replaced but I'm OK for now and in my early 50s.

I was in a cast for 7 months , then in a additional one for 3 months because of the cast my muscles didn't develop as well as they should so it took me a while to be able to walk , my DB was the same.

So the long and short of it ;
Your dd may need more work doing but it will hopefully only be physio or the harness for a short while .

Thank you, I will definitely try and look at that positive 🙏

Thanks for replying.
She had the harness for 11 weeks when she was a baby which it fixed her hips. They have told me that surgery would be the next option. The harness was fine, the thing that worrys me about the surgery (apart from the GA obviously) is the aftermath. She's fully independent and toilet trained. She sleeps well and is happy. It just upsets me that she would need to go through it, obviously if she needs to then we will. I was just looking for hope.
We will find out later, thank you x
