Is it normal for a 7 week old to sleep through the night?

Hi!
my 7 week old over the last few days has been sleeping for 6-7 hour stints at night and I have had to wake her to feed her as I have been so worried. She previously used to wake twice in the night to be fed. She’s on the 75th percentile so no concerns about weight at all.
should I be waking her to feed her or should I leave her? When I wake her she is completely draining her bottle. One sleep period for example was from 9pm-3.30am, only with me waking her for a feed. I am a first time mum and unsure on what to do!
any advise would be greatly appreciated :)

No idea if normal but my child slept through from about then and I would not want to be woken to be fed so wasnt doing that to a child

Amazing, thank you so much for your reply. Just wanted to know if I should be concerned or not! So strange not having her wake me up

I wouldn't be concerned as long as she's taking enough during the daytime. Most of my kids and some other babies I've cared for were sleeping through at this age but it wasn't a continuous thing. Their sleep patterns were always changing and some were still waking at 12 months.

I was told by health visitor and GP that you don't have to wake a baby for feeds once they've got back up to their birth weight.

One of mine slept 11pm-5am from 5 weeks🥳. Was brilliant. They were breastfed and obviously fed enough otherwise that they got some important sleep I guess. They then extended the 5am to 6am as they got a bit older. It was absolutely glorious getting that stretch of sleep.

Yes enjoy it! Mine slept through like that and then never again from four months onwards 😂

My eldest would do 8 hour stretches at this age she was breastfed and high centiles, the four month sleep regression hit and she didn’t sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time until she was two. I say make the most of it just incase it doesn’t last!

My DC1 was like this from 8 weeks. Then sleeping 9-7ish from about 6 months.

DC2 started going to bed about 8ish at about 8 weeks and basically sleeping til about 7am but with 2-3 night feeds in between. Didn't sleep properly through the night til 16 months.

DC3 was doing some stints of 5-7hrs from around 8 weeks too, but that all stopped when he got sick at 4 months. Started waking 1-2hrly for a few weeks. The past few days it's been more like 3hrly so that's something at least.

They're all different. I wouldn't personally wake to feed overnight if theres no concerns around weight.

Yes but it may not last so get all the sleep you can! Mine did at that age but wasn't at 4 months thanks to the growth spurt then

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 11/03/2025 06:22

My youngest did this but fed more during the day. He is nearly 1 and has been consistently on the 98th centile for weight so absolutely fine.

Enjoy it whilst it lasts! You never know if/when good sleep will end with babies.

Dd1 slept 12 hours through the night from 6 weeks old.
Dd2 didn't sleep more than an hour at a time until 20 months (when the doctor gave her medised)
Ds slept 10 hours through the night whenever he didn't have an ear infection (which tbf he had about half the time) from 8 weeks old

They're all adults now and are fine.

It's fine. Enjoy it.
