5-6 month old shaking arms when excited?

Is this normal? If DD sees a certain toy or is otherwise very excited for some reason, her arms sort of go rigid and tremble? Obviously I know it could be a symptom of something more, but is it ever something that’s just okay?

Yes. It's normal.

Holiday24 · 10/03/2025 16:27

Yes, both my babies have done this 🙂

VerityBlueSky · 10/03/2025 16:36

Mine still does at 16 months. Developing normally. Just doesn't express his excitement like a big child yet, he doesn't know how.

SpaceJamtart · 10/03/2025 16:56

Yes its normal, mine did that when they were excited or surprised.
I always thought it was just big emotions bursting out of a small person

LegoHouse274 · 10/03/2025 17:00

Totally normal. My 4 month old does this. My 3.5 yr old still occasionally does it. My 6yo has grown out of it.

UpUpUpU · 10/03/2025 17:09

Is normal.

please enjoy your baby and don’t be looking for and overthinking things that aren’t there

Very normal, she sounds adorable x

ChristmasCutlery · 10/03/2025 18:05

Thanks so much for the reassurance all.

Both mine done it and they are chalk and cheese, opposites in every way. So if they agree on something it must be very normal 😂

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 10/03/2025 18:15

Mine is 13 months and still does this! Totally normal

WhatMe123 · 10/03/2025 18:16

My 4 year old does this still when waiting for something, more so when tired, for example waiting for me to turn the tv over, she is growing out of it though. She used to do it when excited too. Think it's just a way of knowing what to do with the emotion. She's fine in all other areas 😁

pinkroses79 · 10/03/2025 18:21

Very normal. It's just taken me back thinking about it!

MaltipooMama · 10/03/2025 18:25

Aw yes I love it when my little one does this, he's 15 months and has been doing it since he was teeny!

BubblePerm · 10/03/2025 18:56

Yes, it's normal and it's great.
A long time ago, I, as mum, would also shake my arms and mirror my baby's excitement, which is, perhaps, not so normal.

Jade520 · 10/03/2025 19:13

That sounds so cute!

ChristmasCutlery · 10/03/2025 19:39

Gosh thank you so much all, I’ve been worrying it’s a neurological problem or something like that 😔
