Swollen lymph node neck for 2.5 wks - 3.5yr old

Has anyone experienced swollen lymph nodes for a long time after a high temperature? How long did they take to go back to normal?

3.5yr old DS had a suspected virus about 3.5 weeks ago - temps of almost 40c, followed by slightly raised red itchy rash starting on torso then limbs (don't think it was scarlet fever type of rash). No coughing or runny nose. He got over the virus and then one of the lymph nodes in his neck became swollen, and he had another day of 38.5c temp, then temp came down but lymph node remains swollen. He said his neck hurt and the lower right side of his abdomen hurt.
GP just said it was viral (though didn't conduct any tests) and to come back in 2wks if still swollen - it's now been 2wks so we'll be going to GP on Monday.

He seems pretty ok in himself, though pretty low energy and grumpy, pale, and minimal appetite. Neck no longer hurting if he moves it but the lymph node hurts to touch.

Just wondering if anyone's had something similar, and if there are any tests we should insist on?

I think it's very common and very unlikely to be anything to worry about but see what the GP says.

DS had similar when he was about 5, raised lymph node on his jawline. Had an ultrasound and they said it was just a normal but large lymph node. He's a teenager now and still has it!

My daughter had swollen lymph nodes in her neck for 3 months and they eventually needed to be biopsied as they suspected lymphoma. Thankfully they were benign.

What made hers suspicious were the fact that they did not appear after an illness and they were hard and painless. Also they did not go up and down in size, they gradually got bigger.

Take your child to the GP for a follow up - if there is anything concerning they will do everything to get it checked out

Thanks all! The GP has sent for a referral to get a scan, as a precaution, though they said it's within the normal realms for how long it may take for the lymph nodes to go back to normal after a virus.

Just to reassure you I had one big node pop up after a nasty bout of tonsillitis, it is still there. It popped up in 2005.
