Really worried… high temp, no other symptoms…

My son is 4.5.
He used to get extremely unwell, all the time. He often gets petechiael rashes, he’s had more than I can count and countless blood tests and hospital trips/admission.
ONE of these times he had sepsis. Most of the time it was nothing or he had a virus.
Yesterday he developed a high temperature, been to the GP this morning as he still had a temp this morning and she couldn’t find a reason why.
When listening to his chest I noticed a few tiny blood dots on the back of his neck, again he’s had these so many times.
Because she couldn’t find a reason and due to the history of him having them so many times and being okay, she wants to re review him in the morning, if he’s still got a temp and she can’t find a reason he will need to be reviewed in hospital.
If the rash spreads today I will take him to a&e.
I just feel so worried!!!
why does he have a temp but no other symptoms 😭

With my dc, every time they had a high fever and no other symptoms it was either tonsillitis or a UTI just taking a day or 2 longer for symptoms to follow. I hope your ds
feels better soon x

Agree with above poster.

My 4yo DD was hospitalised in July for 4 nights in 2024 with only a high temp as a symptom. They couldn't work out for the first 3 days what was causing it but it consistently returned to 40 each time the ibuprofen wore off. It turned out to be a UTI.

Hello lovely
had to jump on after seeing this.
My 8 year old had pale poo, bloating and then diarrhoea for 2 days starting last Friday. Back to normal yesterday. My 5 year old has had a fever and NOTHING else since yesterday. Temp of 40 degrees this morning. Then Noticed pale poo today. They have never had anything like this before, usually a cough and snotty nose or vomits and diarrhoea. I’ve never seen their poo change so starkly with illness. I think it’s a little tummy bug and they are just working thru it. I am an A&E nurse (adults and Paeds) and I do understand the fear with the petechia. But on the background of him being well otherwise and having multiple episodes of this, I would relax a little. Trust your mum gut though always always always. If you are concerned and you feel he’s deteriorating in any way, go to A&E. I reckon he’s got whatever this odd little virus is, and he’ll be ok in the next day or so xx

Thank you, he’s just had another 2 pale poos and is now complaining of stomach ache, I’m terrified it’s his liver. I don’t know what to do x

With a fever and abdo pain and poo change I would be reassured that it’s a this gastro bug. Unless the stool is white, grey or clay coloured, I wouldn’t be at all concerned that it was his liver. My daughters were really really pale yellow and very light tan coloured. I did get worried how pale they were with my nurse hat on, but It’s back to normal now after 5 days. She had tummy ache and bloating and she was farting loads! They smelt absolutely horrendous 😂
How is he? Does he look well? Is he behaving normally?

What do they think about the petechia? Sorry about the stressful situation. I asked about petechia as my toddler gets it half the time he is sick but it’s actually a condition called ITP, it’s triggered by the infection or whatever else he has. Was wondering if it’s possibly the same thing yours has.
hope he gets better soon x

He was referred to rheumatology as they thought it may be linked to something autoimmune but they didn’t think it was, heamatology refused the referral. It’s been happening since he was 18 months and he’s now 4! However he hasn’t had it for a long time, this time it was a small patch with a few others on his neck. They told me to not worry as long it was above the nipple line. His bloods have always been perfect, I’ve come across a few other mums who have children with the same! Abit of a mystery.

How is he this morning OP?

Excited for world book day, not mentioned his tummy. My husband and I have decided that if after school, if he does another pale poo (making it around a week) I’m going to contact the GP again tomorrow and take a photo of it with us. He’s just so up and down x
