Worried about toddler

My toddler has had a sore hip/ leg on and off for a few days. Of course when taken to GP they were absolutely fine, examined and did not appear to be in any pain at all. I was embarrassed and looked daft but the appointment was on the back of nursery sending her home saying she’s very upset, can’t weight bare properly so of course I wanted to get her checked out.
Now she’s just exceptionally irritable, episodes of crying, not wanting to walk but she can weight bare.
No obvious injury or fall.
I thought irritable hip but Dr didn’t think so and just said if keeps happening can get an X-ray.
Now she’s just upset intermittently, lethargic and wants carried.
What do I do? Do I go back to GP?

Have you given any painkillers?

How's your DD been today OP? I hope she's on the mend. Viral illness can cause limb pain but If she develops a fever along with the limp then bone infection needs to be ruled out which would be an A&E job for scans and blood tests. My DD had this and the pain would come and go in waves rather than constant.

Any A&E would be happy to assess an irritable hip in a child. The GP is also a good place but will likely send you through a&e to get an xray and an assessment. You are not being over the top. You are your child’s advocate. Whats the worst that can happen if it all ends up fine?? Please go to a&e. All the beat. Keep us updated.

Thanks everyone. Currently in hospital with suspected infection of knee joint. Bloods taken and X-rays.
Always trust your gut for sure.

How have you got on today OP? I just want to mention that new infection often doesn't show up on standard x-rays. If the x-rays come back clear but the blood tests show any raised infection markers the guidelines state that MRI should be used to rule infection in/out.
