What about when it isn't 'just gas?'

Hi!
8 week old DS and we're having a nightmare time with him. He's very gassy, crying, colicky etc. Standard fare, sure. Health visitor keen to dismiss it as totally normal, will clear up once his system gets used to things etc etc.
But 8 weeks in, he really seems to have gotten worse.
He is screaming in a really high-pitches, often inconsolable manner, and can't sleep as the wind/pain wake him up each time he's laid flat. The pain is very visible - he suddenly winces in shock then starts screaming and it takes a lot to calm him. He collapses into sleep with the exhaustion of it all then the cycle begins again.
What I'm saying is, what if it isn't just gas?
What if it indicates something we need to investigate further?
Anyone any experience of these issues?
Any professionals out there even who have any thoughts?
Our first child was gassy. But this seems to be something completely different. Way more extreme.
Thanks!

Are you BF or bottle feeding?

You can start to consider CMPA but that's more likely with Bottle.

If BF you can try and cut dairy from your diet and see if it helps.

I agree with PP that the first thing to do in this type of situation is to cut out dairy from your diet, or try a hydrolysed formula.

Have you considered reflux? That makes lying flat very uncomfortable.

What's his poo like? Any blood? Green? Mucus?

Normal we think. Yellow mustard.

OK that's good and makes CMP allergy less likely. I'd wonder about reflux then - can be very painful for the poor little widgets.

Thanks. Although I'm uncertain about reflux. He doesn't vomit (bit of spit up after bottles) and doesn't seem uncomfortable on his back or distressed when dribbling.
