Should I be concerned? 8 month development

My LO was born in June 2024 and is almost 8 and a half months. I know everyone says that babies develop at different rates, but I can't help feeling like my little one is behind or something just isn't quite right.
He's never rolled and can sit independently for a few seconds but can't lift his hands off the floor without falling. He is bright and makes eye contact babbles and laughs, he loves songs and rhymes and is generally pretty happy. He loves musical instruments, but really struggles to hold rattles and shakers and drops them after a few seconds. He tries really hard and ends up crying during almost every play session because it seems like he can't do what he wants.
I don't know if this is within the realms of typical development or whether I should be concerned. Any reassurance, advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry to hear that news. Have you got much support in real life on hand?

Hope you both get plenty of rest and home soon!

Poor little boy, and poor you - I hope you're doing okay. Hopefully you'll get some answers soon and have him back at home with you back to his usual self.

Try get some of those tests and referrals through. Ask about testing for metabolic conditions while you in hospital. Hope he recovers and you get answers soon.

Oh your poor little boy. I hope he's getting good treatment now. It must be such a worry but he sounds absolutely lovely and I'm sure everything will be okay.

Yeah, my husband is great.
We have loads of friends and family nearby it's just tiring explaining everything repeatedly.

He's currently on IVs and high flow oxygen and that seems to have stablised him a lot.

He's had some testing for metabolic conditions and nothing was found. They are going to do some more but they are going to focus on generic testing from what I understand.

I am sorry to hear. I see the post was a while back. How is your son doing now? Btw did they find a cause for his low muscle tone?
