Chicken pox scab on scalp

My DD is just finishing a bout of chicken pox. She had a big scab right at the top of the scalp, it got caught on a comb today and is hanging off. I can’t comb it out because she’s freaking out about it so have left it.

This was one of her biggest spots, she picked it when the spot first appeared as she didn’t realise what it was, but it had scabbed over nicely.

Now that it’s been knocked out it’s left quite a large, deep red bloody looking mark, it’s probably a little bit smaller than a little finger nail.

I’m worried that this is on her scalp. It looks like an open wound. I have smothered it in salon advanced healing gel as I don’t want it to get infected. Should I seek any medical guidance on this or leave it to heal and monitor?

I am really worried that it will scar and she will be left with a bald patch there, it’s right at the front, at the top of her head so it’s a very noticeable place and wouldn’t be covered by other hair.

Is there anything I can do? I am worried about it not scabbing over and her going to school tomorrow. I can’t put a plaster on it.

DD had this almost exact scenario. Just keep it clean by washing it as much as possible and it will scab over again very quickly

I wouldn't send her to school tomorrow as, as far as they'll be concerned, it's a pock that's not scabbed over. They ALL need to be scabbed over in order to return to school. Even if you tell them it was but came off, they may still send her home.

It will heal and probably be completely hidden.

She might opt to have a minor hair transplant when she is older, if the scar is very unsightly and obvious.

Thanks. Did it scar or leave a bald patch?
