Hi all. Few days ago spotted this on toddlers lower back under where nappy starts. Hasn't grown but equally hasn't gone away. Anyone any ideas what it could be. Will.be getting checked.

Possibly ringworm

BoudiccaRising · 23/02/2025 19:05

Yes looks like ringworm to me too. Maybe take them to the pharmacy tomorrow and they can give you some anti fungal cream.

Could also be the start of pityriasis rosea.

Looks like a herald patch for pityriasis rosea. They usually appear on the lower pack then more patches a week or so later. Pharmacist should be able to tell you what it is.

Just to say, in case the OP is worried, that this is an extremely common childhood viral infection and will sort itself out quickly, possibly with a mild fever. But the rash (if it is this) can look quite spectacular! I had a reactivation of it as an adult after catching COVID and wondered WTF was wrong with me...

ImNotAsThinkAsYouDrunkIAm · 23/02/2025 21:34

@OtterMummy2024 oh absolutely, nothing to worry about. I had it as a teenager, with almost no other symptoms. It was misdiagnosed as ringworm until I saw a second GP who scoffed and asked me if I visited many farms and said it wasn't ringworm. I have since had ringworm and was able to very easily identify that I picked it up from a stray cat in Greece. I'd say in a child this young, unless you have animals, OP, or anyone else in the family has symptoms, my guess would be pityriasis, with the disclaimer that I am not a medical professional and you'd be best to see a GP or pharmacist!
