Is it showing in the stool itself or only showing on the tissue paper / sides of bowl?

Crazytiredmiss · 20/02/2025 13:40

It is mixed within stool - can be quite dark at times.

And on tissue paper not small amounts - quite a bit

does he have any other symptoms coeliac disease? That would be my next guess.
dark blood tends to come from higher up in digestive tract- has he had a calprotectin test?

nocoolnamesleft · 20/02/2025 19:44

If it's darker blood mixed in I'd be quite concerned. He's young for it, but inflammatory bowel disease is not unheard of in this age. Has he had a stool test for inflammation (faecal calprotectin) or only for infection?

This.

My mum was diagnosed with Crohn’s aged 10.

Hello,

It sounds like your child needs a stool sample test for measuring the calprotectin has the poster above has mentioned. That is the first step to finding out if there is any inflammation in the gut.
Request one with your GP, if it is refused keep pushing as they can be very dismissive with inflammatory issues.

Londonnight · 22/02/2025 07:05

You need to request a calprotectin test [ stool sample ]. This test looks for inflammation. Normal stool samples just look for infection.

My son was diagnosed with crohns when he was 8, so it is worth getting checked out.

MixedBananas · 22/02/2025 07:06

Umm why isn't the Dr doing diagnostics. (Radiographer here) camera up. As the blood is darker it may suggest bleeding higher in the gut. Diagnostics asap

My 12 year old daughters symptoms was dismissed for over a year until a consultant diagnosed Crohn’s disease. Even he said that GP’s are not very knowledgeable on Inflammatory bowel disease which is why you have to be the voice for your child and push for the correct tests to be done.

Crazytiredmiss · 22/02/2025 10:44

Waiting on result of faecal calprotectin. That has just been done.

Before they will do anything.

Colitis and redundant colon in the family.

Hope you get some answers. X

Facel calprotectin test has came back normal

Still having loads of blood in every moment. And blood on its own... doubling up with abdominal pain. Can they refuse doing colonoscopy even though he's bleeding alot. I've had to start taking pictures just to proof.

He's already under pediatrician has been for years due to bowel movements. Trying to chase this up with them and not getting anywhere

This doesn't sound right at all.
Is there any reason why they wont do a colonoscopy in the first instance? They could even do a CT colonoscopy so less invasive, but dependign on what they see they still make need to go up there with a camera and take biopsies.
I have had digestive issues as an adult, but both my DCs had stool tests as children for persistent runs, etc. Son was blood tested for coeliac too - could that be a possiblity?
