Hi
Need some advice
My DS7 has come down with diarrhea and fever since yesterday (Sat) afternoon.
He has bad tummy pains also. And fever ranging between 38C to 39C and is quite lethargic and clingy. Not eating much and really have to plead him to have sips of water.
He's got diarrhea before also but never accompanied by fever. I called NHS 111 who has given me a appointment with the pharmacy for tomorrow.
We are in London does anyone who any bug going around now. He has been to his swim class on Friday evening and no outside meal.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks

Problem is with flat lemonade - most fizzy drinks are now sugar free so it doesn't work in the same way and sweeteners can make things worse.

OP - it's a bit late now to try this , but you could if he's still vomiting all fluids in the morning.

You can use water or diarolyte. You can try dilute squash but most are sugar free these days.

1st hour 5mls fluid - 1 teaspoon or 5ml syringe every 5 minutes - no more than this. It's enough to be absorbed by the mouth's mucous membranes but should not trigger a vomiting reflex.

2nd hr 10mls fluid - every 5 minutes again.

3rd hr 20mls fluid - you can go down to every 10 minutes at this point

If he vomits, go back a step. Once you've gone past 3hrs with no vomiting, let him drink when he feels thirsty.

Write down when he pees, even if it's a small amount.

In terms of food - leave it until the vomiting has stopped.

If it's just diarrhoea then he can eat whatever he wants. I wouldn't push him - it's best to follow his lead, if he's hungry it's worth trying something.

This has good advice for what to watch out for.

I good rehydration sachet was amazing when I had noro. Really gave me a bit of energy when I was feeling so dehydrated

@fluffyblanky so far me nor dh caught this but if anyone then I would be 1st as I am taking care while dh at work.
@user1471538275 brilliant plan will definitely follow this tomorrow he did take a few sips of dioralyte today after back from GP but hates the taste. Ds mentioned that he'll miss his fish and chips tomorrow....he loves it on Fridays really felt bad at that. Did manage to pee before bed. Just got him to sleep now...it's way past his bedtime but he was just refusing to sleep and wanted me to stay in bed with him...
I read the link you shared and will be a good hand hold. Just want him turning the corner now he's been unwell before but never off his solids that's why I am getting worried.

How much has he drunk today and kept down?

How many wee’s?

SouthLondonMum22 · 20/02/2025 22:51

I hardly doubt it's norovirius if no one else has caught it. At this point with it going on for so long, I'd be going to A&E as he may need fluids to rehydrate and I wouldn't have much faith in the GP.

Camlinmagic · 20/02/2025 23:14

@ImDoneOnceAndForAll about 1 glass - all of which was sips throughout the evening since 5 pm today and total of 3 wees since waking up until bedtime
@SouthLondonMum22 will wait until morning and see as finally managed to get him to sleep. I have been through 111 on Sunday then Walk in on Tuesday and GP today just wondering if they flag me off as a paranoid mom in the system... Wouldn't care really will wait tomorrow to see if no better then that's my last resort.

And forgot to add the Dr did do a urine test and it showed ketones. The Dr said that's because he is dehydrated no sugar or infection though

Is he still getting fevers? Or has that stopped now?

PoopingAllTheWay2 · 20/02/2025 23:50

I would be considering A & E

Joulesdog · 20/02/2025 23:54

As a dr I'd be wanting to see him in A&E for fluids. I really wouldn't be as chilled as you are after 5 days of diarrhoea and vomiting. 24 hours? Fine it's a bug. 5 days? Nah. That's an A&E job

They can give IV fluids and help him feel a lot better quicker

buffyfaithspikeangel · 21/02/2025 00:09

I had campylobacter

Symptoms for me were a high temp of 40c, sweat pouring off me. Then severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea (bright orange) every 15 mins for days. I went to a&e and they tested for it and was given antibiotics
The diarrhoea lasted 10 days and TMI, but it just smelled wrong, which made me go to the GP who then sent me to a&e
Lost 17lbs and about 1/3 of my hair

buffyfaithspikeangel · 21/02/2025 00:10

Oh and all I wanted was full sugar coke and plain hula hoops
Guess I needed the salt and sugar
