Few months back I was cutting my son's toenails and noticed a black line down his toenail. Impossible to get a GP appointment so I took him to the pharmacy to see if they could treat it. Pharmacist said , absolutely not, this boy needs seen by a doctor. Cut to, I took him to the GP as he had became really tired too. GP then made an urgent referral to paediatrics but ensured me that it was more than likely an injury but insisted on having bloods done. Bloods taken, absolutely fine. Now because the bloods were fine his urgent referral to paediatrics has now become a routine appointment with the waiting list being over a year. Now my concern is that the line continues to grow when I cut his nails. There is no bruising , no redness ect just this black line. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Several possible causes, take him to GP?

Did you even read the post? She already did! What a total waste of time comment.

Calm down, dear.

Op take him back to GP (maybe a different one) and say you’re very worried. I don’t know what a forum is going to give you to help. You have Google for the possible causes already, but need to speak to your doctor if you’re too worried to wait.

So glad you decided to come back and write a more constructive comment after I called you out on your nonsense.

Gosh you’re a delight aren’t you. Do you find your comments are particularly constructive?

Dermatology would be more likely to be able to tell you what it is than a general paediatrician.

I don’t want to worry you, and I am not a doctor, but I would go back to your GP and ask for a referral to Dermatology as this can be a sign of something more sinister.
