DS nearly 4 and still wetting himself

Hi all,

Need some advice please.

Ds is 4 next month but recently has started wetting himself during the day on a regular basis. He will come home from nursery everyday having wet himself during the day.

He can talk and he can take himself to the toilet, however, he is rarely proactive in getting to the toilet. Sometimes wets himself on the way to the toilet and sometimes wets himself while he's just sitting there if he's watching TV or playing.

Not sure what to do. Part of me thinks he doesn't go to the toilet because he doesn't want to stop playing or watching TV.

Should I be worried?

Have a look at the ERIC website. I think you’d be better going to the GP and asking for a referral to the continence team - they can assess and advise on practical ways to decrease wetting. In some instances, they can give medication to help train the brain / bladder to hold “proper” amounts of urine, and to assist with late wetters.

My DD is 3.5 and we've been pulling it hair out over the "distraction accidents". Went right back to a sticker chart and only gave her them when she told us she needed a wee so that we were "rewarding" her rather than the wee. It does seem to have made a bit of a difference.

Of course you may feel it's past this point but it's had a positive impact in our house.

Does he drink juice or squash? I had to stop giving drinks except milk and water to my DC as they always had accidents.

You should see the GP with recent changes in continence, ruling out a UTI is the first port of call.

Dd really struggled with toileting, it can be part and parcel of Ehlers Danlos - took us ages to work that out mind!

I would hand a urine sample into the gp for testing.

My DS had issues for years. We've since realised it was sensory issues with his DCD/ASD diagnosis
