Rash on 10 month old

Firsttimemom1 · 02/02/2025 18:46

Just after a bit of advice really, our 10 month old had a temp of 38-39 for a couple days this week which we treated with calpol, took him to gp, who said to continue to monitor at home, his temp seems to have normalised now, just the occasional spike, he's not been as good with his bottles or food, but still weeing fine and stools slightly loose but again gp said maybe viral coming out. However today we've noticed he seems to have come out in this rash, it's only on his belly and back, but I'm concerned it looks like measles, so obviously worried about him and because I'm also 21 weeks pregnant at the moment I'm slightly worried about it affecting the baby too.

Could be a post viral rash

Unseenentity · 02/02/2025 19:20

Measles remains very rare in immunised children except during outbreaks, and generally the affected look absolutely sick as a pig.

There are many viruses that come with a rash and most sort themselves out. Some have names and some don't and the rashes themselves can overlap in appearance. Roseola is the one that is best known for having the rash appear as the temperature is getting better.

Id also say post.viral.rash but no harm in getting him checked. Can you send a pic to the GP?

Firsttimemom1 · 02/02/2025 20:17

@tangobravo sadly our gp don't do online messages or photos, but I will ring them tomorrow and get him booked in. X

Probably nothing to worry about but considering he has been unwell too I would get him checked- tomorrow morning if he isn't too unwell but tonight at a&e if he is.Always best to be careful with rashes and flu symptoms.Have you done the glass test?

Firsttimemom1 · 02/02/2025 20:43

@ChitterChatter1987 we did ring 111 when his temp went up to 39 the other day they advised monitor with calpol too, and be wary of any rashes, or if he becomes unwell, he's definitely more his normal self now, had no alarming temp for a day or so, I'm definitely going to speak to the gp tomorrow, hopefully it's the end of the viral infection but just slightly worried it could be measles as he's not yet had his yearly jabs. Yes we've done the glass test seems to fade.

I understand the concern about measles but cases in January are in the low double digits and very much localised to specific outbreaks so unless you know of one in your area it's extremely unlikely to be that. Last year almost all were in London (Lambeth, Wandsworth) and West Midlands. Albeit this still covers some big geographic areas and even within those areas you could be in a low-risk subunit.

Rocknrollstar · 02/02/2025 21:29

It could be German measles, scarlet fever or scarlatina. DD had them all but the GP was never sure which one she had when he saw her. He just said it was one or the other!

Looks like post viral rash mine gets that all the time and is nothing to worry about

Firsttimemom1 · 03/02/2025 16:41

Update: GP have said its viral, just to keep an eye on it to make sure that it doesn't change in any way or blister.
