Medical appointment on Monday but child has fever

We have a medical appointment for my 2.5 year old DD on Monday morning at 9am but she has suddenly came down with a fever and other cold symptoms today. When she has a fever it usually lasts 3 days or longer so worried she will still be unwell on Monday. Is the etiquette in this situation to cancel at the last minute if she still has an elevated temperature?

The appointment is with genetics for a suspected genetic condition and we have been waiting 3 months for it so obviously don’t want to cancel lightly and don’t like wasting NHS time of course.

I would still go. I thought you were going to say she was having an operation and couldn't have it if ill, but assuming it's a blood test I'd definitely just nurofen her and go.

See how she goes but you have first 3 days passing for her to start to feel better .

If she still has a temperature on Monday, then, yes you should rearrange, to try and minimise sharing it with other children (especially as there may be medically vulnerable children there).
Hopefully it has gone by Monday, as it would obvibe a pain to have to wait longer.
Good luck with the tests and I hope she is better soon.

Thanks all for your thoughts. It’s an hour long review appointment with the genetics team but we haven’t been told to prepare for blood tests so not sure if they would be done at a later stage.

We are all feeling awful today (DD, DH and me) but I’ll try to remain hopeful that we will be better on Monday. It may be something like flu or Covid since I have terrible muscle aches with it today and don’t normally get that with standard colds.

Just tell them when you arrive so they can mask up and put you on a side room.

When ds has appointments at the hospital, they request that you don't attend with fever, d&v or symptoms of covid... I don't know if just letting them know when you arrive would be fair on the staff or other patients tbh.

Honestly for an appointment this important I would absolutely go . Give appropriate dose with calpol etc to help her feel more comfortable and advise that she's is under the weather when you get their.
Honestly with toddlers if you're waiting for a window where they are perfectly well you'd never get to the appointment .

The appointment will be rearranged though... and fair enough toddlers often have colds etc, but the op said a fever (and the whole family being unwell), and that is a different matter surely.

Yes I'd totally agree. If you are all still that unwell by Monday you shouldn't go and spread it, especially as potentially to other medically vulnerable children.

Thanks all. We’ll see how everyone is tomorrow. DDs fever is gone today but she has a hacking cough and lots of snot and is exhausted as the coughing kept her awake all night. I can’t work out which proportion of my symptoms are due to the virus and what’s due to sleep deprivation.
