First ENT appt what to expect

Finally got our first ENT appointment for tonsils after referral from the GP.
DC3 is 8.
What will happen? Obviously they can see the tonsils but can they check the adenoids at this appointment?
Tbh his adenoids are the biggest issue on a day-to-day basis but GP has never really helped with those, only interested when the tonsillitis became a regular occurrence.
I'm a bit nervous about gettting the outcome I want, which is booking in for removal of both. (I suffered until my late 20s when i finally got mine removed).

I don't know where you are but we had my daughters appointment via telephone last week, the consultant took her history and agreed to add her to the urgent waiting list for tonsillectomy. Very straight forward and reassuring.

@Grumpyat40 we are in the UK, it is in-persom and we've had to wait weeks unfortunately. Thanks for posting though.

DS had a thorough history taken, his throat checked and then the consultant used a sort of tiny camera threaded into his nostril to have a look around too. Lots of crying, unfortunately, as it isn't a nice procedure (similar to having a nasogastric tube put in) but she was able to make a judgement about both adenoids and tonsils there and then.

In DS's case, no removal was required so I don't know how quickly this is decided upon in general.

Hope you get the outcome you want.

my daughter is 12 and she was always troubled with tonsillitis since she was very young. seen ENT and they agreed to take them out but then covid happened and we said we would wait a while and when they seen her after covid we said we didn't want her to have the op as she hasn't had it at all for months. there is always a chance they can grow out of it which my daughter did. thats her not had it for almost 4 years and she would have it about 12 times a year.
