Sick baby, unhelpful doctors

Hi everyone, im a FTM and am finding it hard to know what the right thing to do is?!
My baby girl is 9 months old, she started nursery the beginning of this month! She unfortunately caught a viral infection/cold, coughing, runny nose, fever & conjunctivitis - I took her to the GP as she has never been ill before and I panicked as her temp had spiked. She was given antibiotics and eyedrops.

Fast forward 3 weeks later, she seems better in herself but she cannot shake this cough or mucus. Because of this, she’s coughing and gagging when eating food and ending up vomiting. She is also doing the same with her bottles and will bring the majority of 1-2 bottles up a day.. I spoke with 111 who said I need to speak with someone ‘within the hour’ and they will get an OOH doctor to call me back (the doctor called me back 14 hours later?!) .. I was told that as long as she is wetting her nappies & doesnt have a fever then there is nothing I can do?

I’m worried she’s not getting the nutrition, vitamins etc that she needs more than anything as this has gone on for around 5 days now and the mucus isn’t shifting. I’m giving her water, using a saline spray, baby vapour rub on her chest/back, humidifier but literally she is still the same.

please can anyone give me any other suggestions😢

You posted this earlier only you said your baby was 11months.

It's a cold.

Have you taken her to be weighed to see if she is maintaining her growth curve?

Take he back to the same GP.
Could she be suffering Asthma or an allergy?

HeartyBlueReader · 29/01/2025 15:59

@RabbitsEatPancakes No one said she was 11 months old so read my other post properly. Also tone your attitude down and stop stating to me ‘its a cold’ when I am FULLY aware of what it is. Have a bit of respect for someone else’s anxieties as a first time mum and if you have nothing NICE or SUPPORTIVE to comment then DO NOT COMMENT. Nobody needs a patronising belittling human being commenting on their posts over their concerns for their BABY.

Starting nursery is tough for little ones. Exposed to loads of different germs and viruses. First year can be tough in a nursery setting my little lad was constantly ill in his first year but it does settle down. After a virus a cough can linger for a good few weeks so as long as temp is ok and there are no red flags like no wet nappies rash etc try not to worry too much. It’s tough when they are poorly but something that they have to go through at some point to build their immune system

Sadly sounds pretty typical for starting nursery, especially in winter. Viruses are a right pain, especially as there's usually no treatment.
