Toddler falling ill

Hi ladies,
Hope you all well.

My son is 3.5 yrs old and he has been going to nursery since he was 14 or 15 months I think anyway but every time he goes to nursery he falls ill with cold flu and fever. Is it normal for toddler? I have taken to GP they said it’s normal. However I still believe it can’t be normal to be I’ll every other week? I do give him well baby vitamins once a day. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It’s normal. My DD has a constant cold/cough from around October until about May!

Oh bless you, that sounds rough!
I so underestimated how overwhelming childhood virus's were going to be. It's absolutely relentless in those pre school and infancy years.
What you've described sounds absolutely 'normal's it's very tough and mentally draining, but it's normal as far as I've experienced!!!

Some nurseries are better than others for reducing impact of illnesses on kids and their families e.g. threshold for when ill children and staff can attend, some nurseries will understand airborne transmission and keep rooms ventilated, some have freeflow access to outdoor areas, some have HEPA filters (plug in air cleaners reduce viral loads, pretty cheap and low cost to run - increase attendance in nurseries by 30% due to less illness - some parents donate these where nursery doesn't provide).

I'm not sure what country you're from. I'm from England and we do seem to be normalising greater amounts of illness, in addition to minimising the impact on kids of repeated infections or labelling everything a 'cold' - RSV, covid etc. Hope you and your little one get some reprieve soon.

By minimisjng impact, I mean people play down the impacts, not that children aren't impacted.
