my baby 7 months recently bumped his head on his cot it cause a small lump on his head, I called 111 to get some advice and what to do as he was still acting fine and happy. They said to go to an and e to have it checked the doctor gave us the all clear but said that social services will be notified as it’s part of their policy they have to. I was a bit worried but now 2 days later I had a missed call from child services, I tried to ring back but no answer. I’m so anxious since having my baby, is this normal to have a call from them? Do they think i have done something

Yes it’s normal especially if your baby isn’t mobile yet. Happened to me when my 3 month old fell off the changing table! She only asked what had happened and then said not to give it another thought.

Was this in England just wondering if we have the same policy and protocols

Yes it's normal. They will call again.

JJboo · 22/01/2025 00:20

But why do they do this?

Because it's a non mobile baby with an injury.

But why do they do this?

Because a small percentage of the cases they follow up it will not be fine and that’s what they are looking for. It’s good they’re being thorough and checking up. If you’re not part of that small percentage then you have nothing to worry about.

Yes I’m in England. They did warn me they would have to report it. As your baby turned out not to have an injury I don’t think they’ll be very interested. I expect they’ll call again I would put your phone on loud so you don’t miss it. Btw when they called me it was about 11pm on a Friday!

Loads of 7 month olds can crawl and roll so it is a bit surprising that they'd class a 7 month old as a non mobile baby!

Usually it’s your HV that gets in touch. I just explained what had happened and what had been done to prevent it happening in future.

Totally normal for it to happen. Totally normal for you to freak out about it too ime!
Had a few when dc were small, dc2 in particular very accident prone🤕
Nothing ever came of them because everything was accidental/explainable. Glad they did it though, if even one of the hundreds of calls social services make every day catches something that's not right, it's totally worth it.

Glad your bub is ok.
