Hey OP,

Sorry, no experience, but after checking out charts it sounds like he is proportional (albeit gigantic !)

My first thought was perhaps a hormonal issue (growth hormone ?) but your doctor is the only one who can give you answers.

How's your baby aside from his size ? Is he hitting milestones ? Behaving normally ? Are there times when you have concerns about him (for instance does he ever seem in pain, or angry, or lethargic, without obvious cause ?)

Is he eating normally ? Is the amount proportional to his age or to his weight/size ?

He may just be really tall or have hit an early growth spurt.

DS was always bigger than the 100 percentile
Literally off the charts. He is now 6'7" and a healthy 26 year old

.

@Maxorias yeah i think gigantic is the word id also use! They havent checked growth hormone yet i think there would need to be more cause for concern over the next few months but he is such a happy content baby, loves milk, never in pain or crying much, sleeps 11hrs + solid a night so thinking he may just be growing longer and it will eventually slow down.

My goddaughter was like this. Now a healthy happy teenager. Doctors never found anything wrong with her.

Doesn’t sound like he’s out of proportion or anything…

How is he fed? Is he breastfed or formula fed?

Welcome to my world! DS now a month off 12. 5 foot 5; shoe size 9; in the 99th centile for height. (I'm 5 foot 2.5, shoe size 5; DH is 6 foot 3; shoe size 11/12) We're expecting DS to get to about 6.5 and a don't think about the shoe size (or price!!)

troppibambini6 · 25/01/2025 20:51

My ds was the same. 10lb 8 born which was apparently off the chart. We had to stay in for 24 hrs because he was so big.
He just kept growing. He loved his milk slept through from pretty much 4 weeks and before that woke once a night only. I could never tell any other new mums as I felt bad. He's was literally the easiest baby.
He's now 11 (year 6) he's the tallest in his year by a lot and built like a tank. He's not over weight but he is absolutely solid!

Having a big and tall child has a few aspects to it. Everyone automatically assumed he was older and had higher expectations. Passers-by would think he was a 5 year old behaving badly when he was a typical 3.
All through his teens his height impacted things like what car we bought. We always had to look for a car with head and leg room in the back seat. Go to specialist shops for huge shoes. Tyr to get exit rows on long haul flights.
However height has brought lots of positives. People notice him and remember him in large institutions like university and his workplace. He is easy to find in crowds!
