Sleep study for sleep apnea - need advice

Hi

Just looking for some advice if anyone has done a sleep study with their little one before.

We are doing one just now at home. Have connected everything as per the instructions. My little ones heart rate is all over the place, like jumping maybe 15BPM in between breaths. It might stay stable for a minute then it keeps fluctuating literally every second anything from 1BPM higher/lower to around 20 BPM higher/lower. Alarm has went off a couple of times already. Blood oxygen level has been stable.

Shes not moving about and sleeping soundly. Unsure if iv set it up incorrectly or is it possible for heart rate to fluctuate that much each second? I can’t find much online and obviously no one to contact at the hospital to ask at this time.

Yes it is possible for HR to change.

Increases are when the body needs more blood in a certain area. So obviously movement increases it but so does digestion, which could involve more blood flow to various organs, stomach, intestines, gall bladder, pancreas.

One of the most common reasons can be that the heart and lungs lie together so the HR can change with breathing.

I know it is worrying to have all this kit, and alarms, and wires but try not to worry too much.

In the morning, depending on the age of your child you can take their pulse and if it is irregular get them to take in a deep breath and hold their breath, the pulse should go back to being regular.

Aren't bodies fabulous?
