Alternative therapies for sore tummy

Hi everyone,

My DS6 has been complaining of a sore tummy multiple times a day for over 6months. The GP has done all sorts of tests (multiple stool samples, urine, blood) and can't find a cause so he is being referred to gastro specialists.

I am assuming we will have to wait a while to be seen so, in the meantime, I'm considering alternative or complementary therapies - I'm thinking reflexology type of thing.

He has regularly complained of stomach pain over the years, particularly when he has a cold or isn't feeling well, but the pain got worse and more persistent 6 months ago after a stomach bug.

He already takes pro-biotics, has a good diet and no other signs of food intolerance.

Can anyone share experiences of reflexology, osteopathy, acupuncture (do they even do that on kids?) ot anything else that I haven't thought of that might help relieve abdominal pain?

Thanks!

When my daughter has bad reflux she complains a lot about tummy pains when it's out of control again. Colds and illnesses make her reflux flare up. She's had it from birth and never grew out of it. Something else to consider. Sorry I've no experience of alternative treatments

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have wondered about reflux. He definitely could have had it as a baby but it was never bad enough to need gaviscon.

From a quick Google it looks like gaviscon infant is only for up to 2 years old. Is there anything you are able to do for reflux now that she is a bit older?

My daughter has reflux that is stubborn to treat so she's on high dose omperazole (20mg twice a day), domperidone twice a day and gaviscon to thicken evening drinks. She's been on omperazole since 8 weeks and domperidone since 8 months

We only still use the thickener as she only reliably drinks in the evenings and it then upsets her sleep.

Thickeners are more of an infant treatment for reflux where it's the liquid diet is having an impact.

Asking your GP about a trial of omperazole or speaking to the pharmacist to see if Rennie s/gaviscon tablets would be suitable. I'm not sure what age they can be used from.
