Day 4 d&v plus emetophobia

I'm not coping at all.

3 yo son is on day 4 of d&v.

Over last 4 days he has had periods of not being sick , eating plain food, running around, being silly. But then at night in particular and in mornings vomiting comes back

Had a GP appointment the other day (phonecall) and another one this morning,

My husband is a hospital doctor working long hours so I've dealt with this alone day and night.

Our washing machine is broken and can only have on the 400 spin

I have emetophobia. I'm pregnant. We're surrounded by vomit towels. I've had therapy on and off for over two decades. This has been worse than the hypothetical nightmare scenarios I would have talked through with therapists .

Im not coping

Huge amounts of sympathy. I have emetophobia too and that sounds like an utter nightmare. I’m already not coping because of how much norovirus is around this year.

ok, practical stuff: is it a bug that he’s caught or do you think something else is causing it? I’m assuming a bug if he has had D as well as V. Has he been eating in between vomiting? If so, what has he been eating and drinking? To break the cycle he needs to be having water, flat sugary lemonade or coke, dry toast, rice, banana, apple sauce or things like dry cream crackers. My DS always did well on a few ready salted crisps the day after being sick but they are too fatty for some people. He could also always tolerate rich tea biscuits or Party Rings but again, they might be too much. Don’t give him anything at all that contains milk.

Sending all my sympathy to you. I am emetophobic but I have to say getting slightly better over time just because of the number of times I have survived these situations.

You're in a horrible situation but you have survived 3 days of this and you will survive day 4. It's highly unlikely to go on for much longer.

At this age if DD had a bug I opted to stay with her with the aim of making sure the vomit went into the puke bowl to minimise the cleaning up needed. We have a small washing up bowl purely for this purpose. It's an easy target to hit.

By the age of 5 she would know if she was going to be sick and at 6 reliably always got to the toilet or the puke bowl. I'm telling you this so that you know it does get easier as they get older.

Regarding the washing machine issue I'd choose to keep using it for washing the towels even if the lack of spin means they're going to take years to dry. I'd rather be surrounded by wet clean towels than vomitty ones. Have you tried putting them on for a separate spin after the wash finishes?
