Suspected seizures-- to call 111?

Hi all, my baby (nine months) has been having what-I-fear-are seizures for the last couple of months, very frequently today. What's the protocol here, GP or 111?

I would call 111 today.

Notgivenuphope · 15/01/2025 14:31

Is the baby otherwise unwell? What are the symptoms of these seizures?

Yes get medical attention now!

fourelementary · 15/01/2025 14:32

If happening now then 111 or take directly to an and e. Mention todays events as priority and say with hindsight you have noticed them on other occasions but not realised what was happening?

Otherwise well but absolutely exhausted after multiple episodes within an hour. Symptom is seemingly uncontrolled jerky head nodding while looking quite 'absent', for lack of a better word.

A and E. also video your child if you can catch one of these episodes on film

herewegoagainboy · 15/01/2025 14:34

A&E. My DS2 had what I thought was a febrile convulsion a couple of weeks ago. I took him to A&E to be checked over and they confirmed it was likely that but also said I was right to have brought him in as it could have been epileptic and it's important to rule that out.

Loobylou1984 · 15/01/2025 14:39

A&E now and do your best to video a seizure, it really helps if the doctor can see one

You waited for couple of months? What the fuck?

Already seen by a neurologist, thanks. Was told to raise it again if it got worse. This is it getting worse. I'm not a moron.

If your baby has had multiple seizures today you take them to A&E or call 999 if no other way of getting there

Children’s A&E!

It could be West Syndrome/IESS, urgent!

If you call 111 they'll have an ambulance, probably two and a critical care paramedic at your door in less than 10 minutes. A seizure is a category one emergency.

On to 111 now

Its been a few days, how is your wee one now? Have the seizures calmed down?

Completely stopped, thank goodness. Saw the GP, apparently nothing to worry about now as they're resolving by themselves but to keep a record in case it turns out to be absence seizures.

I'm glad to hear they've calmed down, hopefully they will keep investigating them in the meantime at the normal NHS speed 🙄
