Hi guys shaking while writing this don’t know if im on the right thread or what im doing!? I am struggling to get any info for my 8yo daughter who is having a really difficult time with school she has a SEND plan and is currently on half days at school so picking up at 12.30 as she can’t manage the full day. She has dyslexic tendencies and also autistic tendencies and becomes frustrated during lessons and hurts herself (this a small portion of issues ) I’m working with school and doctor but she has come to me tonight upset saying she feels like she’s wasting everyone’s time because she has all these thoughts but can’t tell us what it is because it’s muddled up in her head and doesn’t know why … I’ve explained that’s perfectly fine and we all feel like this sometimes but I can’t help feeling there’s more I could be doing? Can anyone help
many thanks

Look up ehcp.

If the school and she can't manage to meet her needs - full time - then she needs more than is usually available in MS school and needs an ehcp to find out what it is she needs.

If her dyslexia is severe it may mean teaching my a specialist dyslexic tutor or even attending a specialist dyslexia school.

It may be the school can adapt the environment for her etc.

But you needs an ehcp needs assessment to find out what dd needs day to day within education to be able to access it full time and meet her full potential.

Remember as well education doesn't have to look like full time school either. You can get eotas packages (education otherwise than at school) whereby she gets some independence skills and work, counselling etc.

You can apply yourself (I'd recommend it).

The SN children chat section of MN will be really helpful.

Also contact SENDIASS.

Remember you need to keep asking what they are doing to support DD. If parents accept a PT often it's just accepted and people then drag their heels to provide support.

Thankyou so much for your reply I will definitely look in to what you have suggested … I do feel like the school are palming her off as it was me and her dad who suggested going part time at a meeting about her behavior as the head teacher swiftly suggested she’d be happy to send her to another school 5minutes into the meeting ! I don’t want to move her school as I don’t think this will achieve anything and she will still behave the same and she has a twin sister in the same school so would mean uprooting both children
