Lethargic 6 month old - viral cough

My poor DS has had a bad cough for 24 hours and has had a fever on and off which has come down with calpol. I was worried about him because he was lethargic and feeding less so got an OOH appointment. The GP said it was a viral cough and to keep an eye on how much he is feeding to ensure he isn’t getting dehydrated.

He has now been sleeping for 2.5 hours and is showing no sign of waking up any time soon.

Should I just let him sleep for as long as he needs as I presume he is sleeping off the illness?

Any advice would be much appreciated. He is usually such a happy and content boy so it’s very unlike him to be like this!

I would call 111 and ask advice. That's a long time for a 6 month old to sleep if feverish.

How much has he had today liquid wise?

How is he now @Pearlbar

Thanks @Enko he actually woke up about 20 mins after my post. He was upset but was due some calpol (temp sitting at 37.6). He hasn’t fed much today. He’s breastfed and fed at about 6am, 10.45am, 12pm. He is refusing the breast but I was able to get him to take some milk at those times. He’s outright refused the breast since waking up but I’ve managed to get him to take 1.5 oz of BM from his sippy cup. That has perked him up

So hard at that age as they can't tell you where it hurts.

Try feeding him in as upright a position as possible. With the chest infection laying down some babies feel its harder yo draw the milk out with a chest infection.

Hope he gets better soon

Thanks @Enko I have tried that but it’s as if he’s forgotten how to latch! Will keep an eye out for dehydration

At least he will take a bit from the sippy cup.
